Hi; I finally managed to take the Multistrada on a test ride yesterday (albeit in 4 degrees), and loved it . The dealer has come back to me with a decent offer - which includes a touring seat. As I will be doing long trips on the bike, I wanted to see if anyone has the Touring seat, and can tell me if it is worth it or not? Don't get me wrong, for the 90min I was riding the MTS yesterday I have no complaints at all about the standard seat, the question of how it feels after 500miles. Cheers
Standard seat is good for 200 miles at a time. I can't comment on the touring seat as I have literally got mine last week but reports seem to suggest it's better than the standard seat.
Yes it is. I ordered one with my 2010 but it took 3 months to arrive, so I had some time with both. For me, it is a great improvement. More comfortable in general and also a little thinner at the front that seems to make it more comfortable on really long trips for both my knees and hips (legs less splayed). My normal system is to ride with touring seats for rides less than about 4 hours. Longer than that, I add an Airhawk airseat. I can do a 10 hour day and get off feeling pretty fresh. Way better than the standard seat. Just to add that I am on my second touring seat. The early ones seemed to had porous seams and they would take up water and wet you for days afterwards as the sponge let out the rain. Mine was replaced under warranty - but only after I complained - a lot. The updated seat is excellent and they have fixed the problem. Bewarwe buying an early model touring seat if you ride in the rain or park out in the weather.
Cant comment on touring seat but for any serious touring would defo recommend an Air Hawk seat, wouldnt have managed 8 days tour last year without it
I think that the std seat is pretty good, did home to Fort William last year (370) miles non stop apart from fuel stops without any complaint
I have the touring rider and passenger seat Rider seat is more comfortable imho and a little lower than standard which suits me The Mrs says the rear seat is more comfortable than the standard rear seat too Although i must say the standard seat set up is pretty good as it is... The touring seats also come with an embossed Ducati logo which i quite like too
The standard seat was just fine for me, did 3000 miles in 9 days on an Alps trip no issues (I am 6' 3 and 17st )
Touring seat is very comfortable, definitely. Did Cannes to Calais in a day with no seat-related issues. Also yes, looks a bit nicer than the Std one.
My understanding is the touring seat is a cosmetic upgrade (bling). You should find the standard and touring seat OK.
Cheers for the insights. As I am going to be doing a number of trips - with some distances on it, and the fact that the deler is 'doing a deal' on the extras, which includes the seat, I think I should probably go for it. TomOz - I will definately check it is not an early model seat..., I had a similar issue when I got the touroing seat for my monster 3 years ago - it was like sitting in a puddle of water all day (delightful )
I have no issues with the standard seat but will at some stage fit both the touring seats for looks, as I do feel they look a lot nicer. As a side note have you seen the standard seats on the 2013 model? They have a different look and have Multistrada embossed on them, they look almost aftermarket!
It's a nice looking seat and as it is narrower helps those (like me) who are a little challenged in height. It is really comfortable and I have tried the lowered seat, std seat in comparison and would recommend it. If you are 6'+ you may be perfectly happy with std though.
That is not correct. While the touring does have "carbon fibre style" vinyl sides and a ducati embossing, they are very different. As someone mentioned, they are lower, shaped quite differently and the foam is different.
Stickywicket, As I mentioned above, the early touring seat has been upgraded and the seams no longer leak at all - and I ride in the wet a lot. Certainly in Oz, the early ones were replaced free of charge BUT only if you complain. I had my original seat for 3 months, got the first touring seat after the 3 month wait and had it for 2 years. I saw a post on the leaking issue suggesting Ducati would replace it and I asked and they did. I have the upgraded one (with a new part number) for about 5 months now. It was replaced after both the bike itself and the 1st touring seat were out of warranty. Give it a try.
