I posted a week or so ago that I was after my first ever duc. I was after a 748, 848 or 1098. I have been scouring the internet but 748's were hard to come by and 848's and 1098's were too expensive for me so today I have been and got this absolute peach.... APRILIA rsv millie 1000cc sports bike. full service history. mint. low miles. | eBay Its in absolute showroom condition and the noise is just phenomenal. Sorry ducatiers. Ive gone to the dark side.....
Ive just sent a text to my biker mate saying about the swingarm. I tried to explain that to my mkssus and she had no idea how i could find a shiny piece of metal so exciting.... I cant say enough about the noise it makes. Its my first ever twin and I cant wait to get hold of that torque!
Great bikes, them. Too uncomfortable for an old codger like me though, had to sell mine after a wazz through France cos it tortured me:frown: Do yerself a favour, get a better starter solenoid (Yamaha TDM850 ones plug straight in) and a YTX14BS battery for better, more reliable starting
Nice 'millie' I've got two mates (no, really!) who ride RSVs: the engine is smooth and pulls like beast. I was surprised how much bulkier they feel than my 999 though: taller, much wider across the tank. And heavier. But handle real nice. Enjoy!
My ex nextdoor neighbour had the R version of that model and sold it to buy the newer shaped one and bitterly regreted changing it as he much prefered your version.Oh and what a noise too.Looks a minter.
My mate has one too. I posted some video testing footage over in the "which 1080p camera" thread with the drift on the rear of his bike. He has an aftermarket can and drowns my 1098 Zard cans out. He only paid about 2k for it, low miles and good condition. I must admit, I quite like them especially the 2003/4 matt black R version. They are a little down on power compared to the newer machines but I cannot tell as my mate knows how to ride it. I have chewed on the thought of getting one as I don't know how long I will wear Ducati's expensive belt servicing palava.
Great bikes. Just seem a bit bigger than a twin needs to be but if that's the only down side to a bike you can't complain. I was looking to swap my TL 1000 for one last year and didn't hear ANY horror stories about them so you've done well. If you want to know what I mean about size though sit on a 749/999, you can almost touch your knees together.
Mate had one and he swears it was the best bike he ever had. Crap top end he reckoned but for grunt and grins he loved it. Shame he buried it into tree.
You weren't trying hard enough:wink: If you let the battery go a bit flat then try to start it, it will reset the speedo to kmh as well as wiping the odometer and trip meters - never trust the mileage on a secondhand RSV... and sprag clutches have been known to let go on these bikes, although that can be said for many bikes. There's a big electrical connector under the seat cowl that has a habit of spontaneously combusting. The early sidestands were even shitter than the first multistrada stands (CBR600 ones fit), and that's saying something! The starting circuit is very weak, as said before a bigger battery and a Yamaha starter solenoid fixes. And checking the oil level on these bikes is harder than on any other bike ever made in the history of bikes, ever. Other than that it's perfect
Figs, from what I remember reading the battery reset issue was just on the newer (nicer) shape version with the original shape being ok, wasn't it? Or does it affect the whole range?
My mate has a brand new in the box swinging arm if anyone wants one to use as a table or just to gaze at !!
