Hello all 'Next year we will go to the TT!!'...I've been saying it for years, but I'm determined to make it happen in 2016...if I haven't left it too late; I'm looking for some much needed advice, we are looking to go for the practice week, kind of break ourselves in gently, my self & my partner wil be travelling on our 2014 Multistrada, I have the panniers & will invest in a top box too, we will preferably be seeking hotel / B&B accommodation I've often wondered how people travel to different locations in the evening for a drink or two & then ride back to there base, ( seems that the sea front is the place to be in the evenings !? ) do the police take a relaxed view on drinking & riding ? ( within reason of course ) Anyway, any advice on anything regarding do's & dont's would be greatly appreciated. Steve
It is very possible that you have left organising ferry and accomodation too late. People book during (and before) the race fortnight for the next year. Finding a ferry sailing is probably your limiting factor. I'd check that before trying to find accomodation. Andy
all the people who put a deposit down in may/june have to pay the balance in february and there's likely to be quite a few returns then so keep an eye on the steam packet website as for boozing, every other day or so i used to take a couple of cans up to the creg and then have a couple in the evening but for the love of god dont go mad, its just not worth it - not just with the plod but your own pride and joy (and life) if you want to get pissed every day just get a flight over there and stay in douglas, its pretty grim there though imho
suppose what im trying to say is its a bike holiday first and foremost , you can get pissed every night of the week at home if you want but of course plenty of people do and each to their own
Stay in Peel you won't need to leave apart from racing - go to the Manx in August if you can't get to the TT - much more relaxed [emoji2]
if you are struggling for ferry tickets, a friend of a friend of mine buys a load (he's a tour operator or something i believe) and may be able to help. its a longish shot and although ive only met him once , he's a good chap and i'd have no probs calling him.
As said you will be lucky to get bike and rider now for the ferry but best to phone steam packet see if you can get a cancellation , if camping Douglas rugby club is a good bet as walking distance to the front, leave the drinking till you've parked the bike up for the day & lastly if you ride the mountain course be very careful !!!Manx races later in the summer maybe a better target
It's a great question on the drink and ride issue, but don't worry, iom cops are famously relaxed about this, in fact my mate has a bottle of jack Daniels in his speed hump and a drinking tube fitted, the bobbies just loved it and applauded his spirit, so go for it! You should see how the locals cheer him on, they have a special hand signal on the island for saluting such japery, look out for it, it's like they are holding a narrow bottle and shaking it up and down. Cheers
