Cracking on with preparing my 1098R for Almeria and have just removed the petrol tank. Disappointed to find a rub through the paint where the tank is closest to the steering damper mount which has a corresponding polish through the paint. Any one else had a similar issue ? It looks like you might be able to space the bracket off with a washer between the frame and the bracket, you'd only need 1-1.5mm, which shouldn't have a knock on affect to the interface of the other end of the steering damper and the petrol tank. Ideas anyone ? Andy
I have a petrol tank that came off a 1098R :Angelic: - it has exactly the same rubbing - all the way trough to the tank.
Did the 1098R tank suffer from that ? The wall thickness makes the whole tank very rigid. I'm going to see if I can space the bracket off. Andy
I was under the impression the 1098 didn't, but the Streetfighter did. But apparently some 1098 owners have experienced it.
Mine doesn't. The 1098R frame is different to any other 1098 frame as the steering damper mount bolts on. On the base and 'S' it's welded on. There is some movement on the damper and it can get close though. The tanks on all models are identical apart from the 1198 alloy ones. R Steering Damper Mount S & Base Damper Mount
Identical to my OE tank and my spare track tank (which has the white 1098R decals). I have definitely decided to have a play with the steering damper mount. The Pierobon version comes out just a little too expensive to justify with all the other stuff I have to fund. Andy
