749 Issue

  1. picked up my 749 this morning. Rode like a dream home.

Been out this aft and the gear selection on the down shift doesn't always engage. Not sure if its because I'm new to riding it or if its an issue.

any advice will be greatly received.

  2. Does the gear lever spring back to the "rest" position or does it stay "down" when you try to change down?
If so, it may be the return spring on the selector arm. This happened to mine.

  3. I'll check that out. Not really sure. I know very little about the mechanical side of bikes. Think I'm going to need to learn and fast...

  4. Another possibility is your clutch isn't working efficiently. That will be a bleed issue, which is thankfully a relatively simple matter on the 749 - there's a bleed nipple is located in the reservoir as well as on the slave cylinder, two for the price of one! :D

The gear selection assembly at the lever is adjustable, so it's worth finding out if it's adjusted to suit your boots/feet.

  5. Dot 4. Is clutch and brake fluid the same stuff???

the bleed worked a treat. Cheers. I'm going to flush the system Monday and replace the fluid throughout.

  6. Yep, DOT4 or 5.1. Not DOT 5.

DOT4 and 5.1 are mixable too, unless someone corrects me :)
