It Is Confirmed - Bridgestone Out After Next Year!

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Dave, May 1, 2014.

  1. I wish that were true. We've already got more traction control and abs on road bikes for average :) law abiding road riders than we will ever need,so saying that racing improves that side of the argument is misleading,we don't need more of it.If we want to see interesting racing you need to take a lot of those aids away so riders can race more on riding talent and basic bike set up skills.Computer techs make other boring programs in other sports and business apps as well you know.Lets get rid of them and have a more human element to racing. The bikes look nice but it's the humans that ride them who should be providing the entertainment that has slowly faded away over the years. It's now a sterile environment(about as exciting as watching bacteria grow) so good luck to anyone seeking an elevated heart rate watching something exciting like racing with at least five guys who can win in any order.

Sorry for the long wish list attached to your bridgestone thoughts.Cheers all.

  2. I see where you're coming from but the whole point of the racing at that level (be it cars or bikes) is to develop technology for standard cars and bikes for the mass market.

  3. I agree with you, but you are missing the point you old fart ;)

Dorna are gradually wresting control of MotoGP from the manufacturers (predominantly Honda). Dorna will have control of the ECU and every manufacturer will have to use it. It is in Dorna's interests to give us close racing. If they are sensible then hopefully they will turn down the electronic aids that the control ECU provides.

  4. I agree and don't think i should overstate my idea of racing tho i clearly have, old farts can be boring and easily mistaken for wanting to have things stay the same as they were,i do in lots of ways.Racing and good racing at that is one of them.In this modern commercial bike selling market of ours do you think that manufacturers like ducati want to sell bikes to people who like sitting up at all hours to watch premier class or paying squillions on going trackside or buying their bikes..if the 'racing' they watch is boring as batshit. How do people think they should make it more interesting? fuck i hope someone high up starts thinking about that.Cheers for the reply :)

  5. A new single tyre manufacturer won't help. We need open tyre availability. Run what you brung. In stead of making the tyre manufacturer give tyres out for free, why not make the teams pay for their own tyres?!

  6. Dorna won't change from a single tyre supply....their press release

    Official supplier to MotoGP™ Tender

After seven years of collaboration it has been announced today in agreement with Dorna that Bridgestone will withdraw from the role of Official Tyre Supplier to MotoGP™ at the end of 2015 season.

Dorna, in agreement with the FIM, has decided to call a tender for tyre manufacturers interested in becoming Official Tyre Supplier to MotoGP™ from the 2016 season.

The Tender application starts today, the 1st May 2014, and will conclude on the 22nd May 2014.

All interested tyre manufacturers can request the technical specifications from Dorna’s Managing Director Javier Alonso.

Dorna Sports SL wishes to thank Bridgestone for the years of great collaboration and success in the championship.

  7. Dorna wrestling control from Honda?... Now that I'd love to see... Along with a non Spanish national standing atop the podium in MotoGP this year... I'd also like a blow job off Madonna.

Honda run MotoGP & Dorna have too much to lose by pissing the big H off too much... Dorna may well desire closer races & Honda will make small concessions... As in REALLY small concessions here & there but there will be a line that must not be crossed.

  8. We could always just let honda go? Perhaps more teams would compete if it wasn't a white wash every week.

  9. Its a bit of a thankless task, the only publicity they get is when things go wrong. What happens if no manufacturers apply?

  10. Sparks will fly!!!!!!

    Boom boom!!!

  11. Perhaps the manufacturer who makes more tyres than anyone else will apply?

    LEGO!

  12. There's a lot of old tosh being spouted here. Modern racing boring..? I suppose Agostini winning every single race by several laps was bloody scintillating, eh..? And the control tyre has worked well for WSB, moto2 and moto3; perhaps it's just Bridgestone, rather than the tyre rule, that's the problem. Guess we'll find out soon.

Human element? Back in the day the racers bought, raced and fettled their own bikes. I admire them enormously. But today the riders are employed by the factories to do as they're bloody well told; the factories don't want humans spoiling the fun. So perhaps Dorna are right to try to wrestle control from the likes of Honda. Unfortunately that won't bring back the gung-ho privateers - they just can't afford to play - so that part of racing history will remain so - history. Embrace the modern way, or take up crown green bowls instead.

  13. What if Pirelli gets the contract?. That could be a big advantage for Ducati! Develop the tyre to suit only the ducs. Job done. ;)

  14. It's bollocks.........that's my 2p :)

  15. It sure is,going to get on google earth and look up the nearest bowling club with a decent bar and fox sports,i hear they've got full season coverage of all the lawnmower racing rounds, apparently all the old boys at bowling clubs go crazy when that's on.Must be something to it,a lack of SOFTware apparently and all that green stuff that flies around. The yanks call it arkansas polio weed.

I think what dorna is willing to do is fully control honda and if it goes it goes. Then we'll be back to proddie based bikes that might even look similar to what you buy,why don't we just have wsb as our premier class? and no tyre rules re supplier. That might even flow down to better road tyre developement if you think about it,more competition between factories. What racer would'nt like an unlimited tyre brand and compound choice on race day??

ps figaro if you read the posts carefully i was'nt talking about ago on the gilera500 or doohan on the nsr500,i meant all the other guys who were factory/dealer sponsored and were capable of winning as well, made it exciting.

  16. I don't think the racing is that boring, it's just that Honda have a far superior bike and invest so much. If you want a decent race then the grid needs to have more manufacturers and although it won't happen, give more freedom not less. I'd prefer to see WSB running bikes we can effectively buy and MotoGP being the prototypes for development with the likes of Aprilia, BMW, Suzuki, Triumph etc. all in the mix.

One tyre for all doesn't work for me as I'd prefer to see that being a factor, not neutralised.

  17. Yes i agree about tyres being freed up,lots of people here say that.

Cranker who does make the most tyres out of interest? should i whisper cheng shin or is it somebody else?

The biggest bike sales markets are in asia and the old sub continent, they buy most of the overall production and they are all small capacity scooters/mopeds and up to 250 etc.Probably explains why so much is invested in moto 3 by the factories,it is by far their biggest selling market.

Count suzuki are coming on board so at least we can look at blue for a change, maybe dani on it.

Lots of the guys i rode with today are camped at my place to watch the jerez round live in about three hours from now which will be 7.30pm.Is lorenzo's head mush?? we will see.If it gets too boring we are all going to get the ride on mower out,i run it on castrol r so it smells good but not to fast.

ps did you know honda own the worlds fastest lawnmower record as well??

    Cheers hope it's good.

  18. Something I was thinking earlier, and I don't know if it would work bet would addi
BG ballast to the lighter bikes, mm DP for example help to even things up a little?
