  1. Hi... long time rider but new to the world of Ducati, so be gentle please ha
I ride a Firebalde as an everyday thing but want something special as a toy for dry days as the 'blade is clean but never dry day clean.
So being someone who likes to build from the ground up I thought the best way would be to get bits and build exactly the bike I want to the spec and finish I want.
So it all starts with a frame...

SO I have just become the owner of a 2000 748S frame

so what am I here for? information build threads and inspiration basically... this isn't going to be a quick build but will keep me busy over winter, with the plan to use the bike next year

  2. Hello and welcome! Plenty of helpful folk on here. I'm sure you'll get loads of advice, some good, and maybe some brilliant, but as a newbie to Dukes myself I'm afraid I can't help!

  3. It's just not us two, is it

  4. For restricted's sake I hope not!! He won't be getting too much help will he!lol Lol

  5. It's only you 2 ATM cos you're the only buggers up at this time of the morning with nothing else better to do !!! :) BTW hello and welcome :)

  6. Mornin M8,

If your starting from the ground up, it would be great if you started a thread for your build....with pictures from the beginning, that way you'll capture people's interest and will be way more likely to get your questions answered quickly.

There's a few people on here who have built bits'ers up, Nelson would be one of them, he has a 748 framed Ducati with a 1098 engine in there.

I've got an excuse for being up...I'm waiting for my flight.

  7. I've got an excuse for being up too.............I'm an insomniac

    Where are you? Newcastle Airport?

  8. Have a great hol Anth!! Bring back some pics for the tatt and piercings thread. They don't need either, just tits! But make sure they're not royal ones!!!

  9. thanks, do you have a link to his build?
will do a full build thread...

  10. seems i got saved from just you 2... there are others who are not asleep as well haha

  11. Sounds like the start of a beautiful friendship. I look forward to seeing your progress

  12. well if it's anything like my 'blade i'll be happy

  13. So why not write a wish list of what your build is going to be........though with that age and type of frame you have made extra work for yourself allready.......if you want a proper later type engine!

  14. Good idea but why have i created work for myself?
i like the look of the 748, engine wise... thats where i need to do my homework... making things and fabrication isn't an issue as it's what i do on a daily basis and as a time served TIG welder I don't see anything being an issue.
My challenge is to build the bike with parts only sourced from Ebay, nothing else... no dealer, no swaps... nothing but parts from Ebay, with a budget of £2000 for the parts. Refinishing and making look new is an unlimited budget as I would do that even if i bought a complete bike.

I want the 748 to look standard but not necessarily in standard colours.
Red frame, red wheels and black bodywork is the main idea.
I like the idea of the single seat but I need to learn the spec of this bike so I get the correct bits

  15. Sneakily taken from the Ebay sale.
    HPi clear and V5 present...

very happy for the money, especially as what others have been going for

  16. so what engine....

  17. Can the frame be converted to R spec?

engine wise? no idea at present, still in the learning stage. Think of me as a kid in a sweet shop lol

  18. OK
So most modern most power = 1200cc 1198= circa 3000-5000 pounds if you can find one
    next 1098cc 1098 = circa 2000-5000 pounds more available
both of these require an airbox being made

next a 998cc 999 = loads available, 2000 pounds would get you a singing and dancing engine circa 130-150 hp
plus all the std bits are available to fit with minimal fabrication particularly around the airbox but would obviously go straight into a 748R frame:wink:
