  1. I knew it was getting down a bit, but it just seemed to go all of a sudden!!

Made the last 60 miles home rather "interesting" :Wideyed::Wideyed:

The Rosso Corsa has no tread in the middle of tyre from new, so its a bit difficult to judge how much life is in the tyre, done about 3,000 miles btw.

    Poucher :upyeah:

  2. Blimey :Wideyed:

  3. Strewth!!:Stop:

  4. Man, those were the days. I used to always let the back tyre on my ZXR750L2 get like this before replacing. My tyre man back at the time used to always shake his head when he saw the state of my back tyre. I remember riding 80 miles home from the NEC Birmingham once after a bike show, in the rain, and the bike was all over the place on the white lines. When I got home, my rear was nearly like the one in the picture. I hadnt realised!

These days, I seem to change tyres well before they are done. I figure ive used up nearly most of my 9 lives already!

  5. LOL,used to see and hear that a lot where I used to work!!

  6. Been there in my younger days. In your youth, you are indestructible :D

  10. You want to be using some of that rubber on the side, that you have also paid for.

  11. Happened to me on my Hyper, 'tyre working alright, tyre stops' as they say.

  12. just got home from a wee blast putting bike away and spotted this , thing is even if this was noticed , same as yoursef Poucher and had been stopped by cops on way home ,do you think they would charge us for the tyres being in that state given the fact they were ok when we left home ??

  13. Mate used to run his R1 tyres down to the thread. One day we were riding side by side on the M25, my junction home was coming up in <200yards so when he came barreling across the front of me waving and honking his horn, I waved back and sodded off home thinking he was saying bye.

Nope... Rear blowout. He had to wait, alone, for 2.5 hours for recovery, with no fags. He called me all sorts when he got me on the phone. How could I know he was flagging me down & not waving bye [emoji51]

  15. A good friend of mine used to let his tyres get that bad. He had a blow out. He's not with us anymore :(

  16. Believe me, this wasn't intentional, I'm quite happy throwing money at the bike and don't mind spending whatever it takes to keep it in top nick, its just that I've never used the Rosso Corsa's before and there's no way of telling how worn they are getting.
I think on the Rosso / Super Corsa's there should be couple of tiny "depth" holes on the crown of the tyre so that you can keep an eye on them and when the hole disappears its time to change the tyre...are you listening Mr Pirelli ??

Also I think if you were stopped by the cops there's know way that they would believe this had only happened in the last 60 miles or so.

I took the tyre off the rim last night ready for my new ones turning up and its so thin its shocking, I bet its only around 2mm where the steel cables are showing through, I could fold it in half quite easily!!

Gonna just change the rear every 3,000 miles now, tyre choice on the 899 is pretty limited due to the 180 / 60 rear, its either these Pirelli's or the Dunlop Sportsmart 2's and I've never really been a fan of Dunlops, but I might give a set a go just out of curiosity some time.

Have a good close look at your rear tyre Peeps!!!

  17. These pirellis are renowned for it.

  18. Wooooo some of you live on a knife edge :Wideyed:

  19. My son's 696 monster done that to his Pirelli Angel, I couldn't beleive he had let it get so bad at the time, but now seeing this, I'm thinking its a Pirelli thing?

  20. SCs don't look much different to slicks, as far as I can tell. Yes, there are depressions in the rubber that could be called "tread" but along the centreline of the tyre, there are no wear indicators.

For track-riding gods, this wouldn't represent much of a problem - the wear on-track is more evenly distributed across the entire surface and loss of tread pattern would be a better indication of the health of the tyre. However, for us average point-and-squirt road riders, the main action necessarily takes place along the centreline, where there are no obvious warning signs of wear. Hence this thread.

I'd have to say, for this and other reasons, I think SCs are unsuitable road tyres for a large number of road-riders.

You may now proceed to tear me a new one - but I am being sincere and I'm trying to help :)
