Intermot Cologne bike show starts tomorrow, hence the bike launch spree. Hate the mirrors on the 20th anniversary Monsters, but like the gold frame.
Video Assessment. Honda : surely shot in 1976? Utterly banal. Clearly a recession bike for oldies who don't want to frighten themselves. KTM: quite good music, nicely shot, riders look like loons. Triumph: can't even see the bike. Was this the point? If so, why bother with a video? Ah! It's a teaser campaign! How excited now am I! Yamaha: another ground-breaking video. Not. Looks well lardy. BMW: ha! spot the odd one out - the bike doesn't move. That's because it's waiting for us! Geddit?! Well, at least it's original in that respect. Not shot too close so you can't see how identical it is to the last model? Ducati: the best production values, but not pant-wettingly exciting, is it? Most of it is in the dark. Am I being teased again? All in all an incredibly average set of short videos. Very much par for the course. Agencies with bike accounts seem incapable of really getting over the excitement of the bikes (or anything else) in an original way. Is it because the people working on the accounts aren't bikers? I think we should be told.
At least you get to see the Honda. Although maybe it's the one bike that should've been shot in the dark...
