I've Got The Dimpled Finish I Was Looking For...at Last!

  1. I've been working on test pieces for weeks now to re create the dimpled finish you get on some parts of the engine cases.. Took ages to find a way to get it looking as I really wanted.. Sand blasted first and soda blasted parts that are not to be polished and dimpled..
    Then applied the dimple formula tried and tested over a three week period..
    Very difficult to get the effect on I phone camera but it looks stunning.. Now got to work out a method to protect the finish... image.jpg image.jpg

  2. Ford Motor Company have been using that paint finish on cars for years.

  3. Ha... No paint involved whatsoever...

  4. Why not just use crackle finish paint?

    This would have done the same ;) would have saved you hours

  6. Ha ha.... Very good !

    Sometimes it's worth being patient...

  7. It sure is
    What you have done looks great :)

  8. So it's like cellulite ;)

  9. image.jpg It's only done around the sump area to be fair.. I don't want too much bling.. The rebuild is a year in now and every detail is planned well ahead.. ( or call it OCD ) it's my show bike, or will be.. I've got my run around too.. Being an artist doesn't help.. Always looking to achieve more.. As I say the pics don't do it justice really..
    A couple image.jpg of pics of other completed parts if you have not already seen before included in this post..

  10. Smart job that, did you use sand paper and tapped it with a hammer for the dimpled look,

  11. Light hammering with a ball penn hammer first and then course grit s paper and a hammer...

  12. :Cigar::Cigar::Cigar:

    Did the same to a bit of damage on a lower fork leg on a kr1s rebuild,
