Jap bike questions

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by Char, Jan 12, 2013.

  1. seeing as its been over xx years since I owned a Jap bike, would appreciate some guidance for my son -

so something we can restrict to 33bhp -
    single?
will be used as a daily hack to work and quite a bit of two up riding
    really easy to maintain
    good mpg
    not a sports bike
    3-4k tops

List so far in his order of preference

    KTM 690 DUKE
Yamaha MT03 -looking like a favourite allrounder
    Kawasaki Versys
    Kawasaki ER6
    Aprilia Pegaso

(yes I know not all Jap but you get my drift)

anything to look out for / stay away from?

    Cheers
    Char

  2. yammy xt are excellent fun and cheap

  3. Honda Cubs are quite popular.

  4. KTM would be my choice

  5. Mt03 .......the yam is only 46bhp as standard ..... Cb500

  6. Yammie would be my choice.

  7. bmw f650 new a guy that had one seemed ok

  8. Bandit 600 Suzuki gladius ?????

  9. MTO3 deffo !
Reliable and great allrounder I know one used daily as a commuter and its not missed a beat rain or shine and they look nice as well !

Was a cracker for sale up here funnily enough today red and white :) in the bike shop here.
I was looking at it but it was way too high for me and the shock set up can't be lowered to midget size.
    Really nice starter bike .

The kwack .... no looked cheap and nasty compared to the yam.
Build quality on them are not great either :(
I know the riding schools use the ER 's but no.... dull dull dull

  10. you missed the really obvious 883 harley sportster

  11. Gladius ... poor Chars son .... thats as camp as a girl guides holiday campsite!!

883...... that would put him off bikes for life!!!!

  12. I'd go for a Gladius or SV650, purely cos there's still a bit of torque left after it's balls have been chopped. Presumably singles would be not too badly affected either, so the MT-03 is probably a good shout. Of course a Monster or SS can easily be restricted too...

  13. SV is a good reliable bike as well....
But MTO3 would still be nicer

  14. Rc8r ........

  15. My Mille ???????? Only £4100 ........

  16. Yamaha MT-03 same engine as Yamaha XT660 & Aprilia Pegaso Strada 650

  17. Your son will, of course, ignore all this sound advice and buy an R6. Hey, that's what kids do.

  18. And the super moto is a real hoot. You can drift it nicely in the wet. I drag raced a McLaren Mercedes and had him for at least 20 yards! Well, maybe 10, but he had 500 more bhp

  19. Definitely not an 883 Hardly Movingsome.............not a good bike for an experienced rider let alone for a......(lost for a word)...um, 'novice'......

B*****d 'orrible thing and the 1200 wasn't any better....

Owned one and borrowed the other back in the 90s.

Even managed to start the bl**dy thing while it was in first gear and it shot forward and disposed of a plate glass window.

Would it go round corners? Nope.......
