Hi , just joined as picked up a 900 mile ex demo panigale (base model) 2 days ago . noticed the quiet spot at low revs when riding her home and a slight lurch when it opened back up and so I removed the servo cable yesterday . Have also noticed the white smoke on start up and sometimes its a bugger to fire up but saying that my 848 was like that sometimes . so here are my questions white smoke ? from what i have read this seems normal , dealer ran the bike in and then demo rides for the next 300 miles so probally had a very easy life so far (I hope) starting issue ? doesnt fire up quickly of the button sometimes exhaust valve ? leave it or put it back? thanks
Hi mate, mine has done about 1800 miles it smokes a little on start up but nothing like it did when i got it,i was told it will go away in time and to be fair it has .Starting issue- first do you keep it on a charger 24/7 ? second is this your first ducati? cos they do take some turning over not like in line 4's, sorry if it's not yer first duc i was just asking. Last of all the surge- mine does it and prob they all do it, taking the cable off helps but you could get the full termi's and really sort it out. That's what i'm going to do when it's not -2 outside and i can get to the garage. Hope that helps.
Thanks for your reply , I don't have it on a charger battery was 12.2v , I don't have power in my garage (live in a flat) but I do have a solar setup with a car battery for the other 2 so I will hook it to that . I had an 848 for 3 years and I know what you mean with the starting( sounded like it was about to pack in sometimes lol) , I guess its just part of this new bike as well . Thanks for putting my mind at ease
My 500 miler base is the same with slow turnover and start then lurching at the bottom end at times, my research showed both were pretty normal.
You'll probably get an error coming up from the servo with cable disconnected. Worth checking if the software is up to date to. Dealer should be able to tell you. Termis do away with servo so obviously problem removed. With ambient air temps the way they are, white smoke could well be condensation getting cleared out of silencer... btw if you fancy Termis, I've got a couple sets and can do a deal. drop me a pm.
Fiddle,fiddle,fiddle... leave things connected. You don't know what you are doing. Your lovely new toy is not even a tiny bit like anything you've ever had before with two wheels. You got can-bus electrics and that means that everything goes through one or more of the several computers running stuff on your bike. The best way to get a sweeter ride is to buy the exhausts that the 'S' gets thrown into the price and get your dealer to fit them at the same time as he program's the 'up-map' and possibly even a new Mk 2 map into the bikes computers, while they're at it. I was fortunate enough to get the whole system fitted, race pipes plus Termi race cans, which smooths out the fuelling and makes it even noisier. It also makes the dashboard tell you that it's a 'Racing Evo' woo hoo ! Unfortunately I am a bit of a twat so I thought I'd get it on a rolling road to see how fab it now was. Trouble was, most rolling roads don't spin the front wheel to match the rear, so I made the bike limit it's power output as a self-preservation technique thinking that something was awry. Back to the dealers for a bollocking and get it reset, remapped and properly rolling-road tested on their proper machine... so now it works properly again, duh ! All this I learned the hard way from my ever patient dealer and which I can pass on to other inquisitive fiddlers like me, before they end up in the same do do I did do. P.S: They all smoke while they run in. Keep a close check on oil consumption, but don't overfill fer chrissakes, either ! The smoking will soon disappear as you up the miles and the revs. Just remember how you polish things... The speed of the polishing isn't as critical as the amount of pressure you apply doing it. So, don't get too obsessed with revs, just apply them gently, not with a wide throttle. After a thousand miles, start getting a bit more adventurous and by fifteen hundred, you are able to start enjoying what you bought, properly, in ever enlargening doses.
Oh, I keep reading a bit more of the header's author's issues..... I was informed, when I bought my own Pani, that unless I was likely to use it on a very regular basis, that it needed a trickle charger hard-wiring in. As per my previous rant, the battery is expected to do rather a lot of stuff, what with everything all can-bus controlled. The starting technique is: NO THROTTLE. PRESS AND HOLD THE START BUTTON UNTIL IT FIRES UP. LET IT IDLE FOR A MOMENT IF COLD ENGINE. BLIP IT IF HOT, TO CLEAR IT'S LUNGS. All this ensures it fires first time, every time, but it is pretty hard on the battery . Get a top quality charger with all the pre-programmed charging cycles incorporated and the connecting lead fitted with the unpluggable bit permanently attached to the battery, direct to the terminals. I have neither knowledge nor experience of solar chargers, but hear that they are better than nothing. Connect them using the same technique as you would with a mains charger. If you have a voltage tester, you should see about 13.8 to 14.2volts from a fully charged battery ... any less and your battery isn't charged and if too much lower than 12volts, the computers won't work properly.
