  1. do i paint my tatty looking yellow 748 or throw a few bits of carbon at it & tidy it up?
well i decided to powder coat the wheels & headlight bucket black. added the usual goodies like termies & the ohlin rear shock. fully serviced belts, fluids, pads, tyres.
& just add a few carbon goodies to finish it off, nothing too over the top!!!!

Yes, the quality of some of it ain't great, but I made a lot of what you see myself and finish improved with practice.

Keep up the good work though and please pop more pics up.
This is the whole bike, but it ain't a patch on yours.

  8. nice work. How many plies and what material / layup did you use for the rearsets?

  9. I used 8 layers of 3K 200g plain weave from easy composites. Turning each layer 30 degrees and used a borrowed vacuum bagging system to cure it. This does work a lot better in every way than just wet lay up.
With all 9 stone of me stood on the tip of one footpeg there is a little tiny bit of flex but not enough for me to worry about. Cost about £30 to make the pair.

  10. if you run off another set, put some core in there, then continue laying up the back, it should eliminate the flex. Yes, very nice work. Did you take the mold from the originals?

9 stone!?! are you a jockey or something?

    I weighed 11.5 when I was in my 20's!

  11. Yes I took molds off some RS hangers.
I'd probably change the layup, or amount of layers if I made more. Flex is a lot less than the factory item which even I could see 5mm of movement in but mine are near twice the weight.
Eat what I like, don't exercise and been 9 stone give or take since my teens. Built like a greyhound jockeies whip.
    Sorry for the slight hijack.
Back to being for more pics please.

  12. here are a few more pics of the 748 & as it was sunny got the 749 out took it for its mot test.did a few miles on it before we took the pics of them together.just waiting for the new chain to turn up for the 748 to get it back on the road

  13. Savage looking bikes , well done

  14. That's bloody lovely that is. Looks better than the QB bodywork I've got.

I got QB down to under £1k but it's still a wedge to lose as the first thing to explode in a crash.

  15. Yep it looks better than other peoples carbo as its not wet lay or vac bagged, ours is made using prepreg in an autoclave, we sell the 748 carbon tank for £1k. the 748 is wearing just over £2.5k of carbon at retail price. & yes the bike will still get used the way ducati expected it to including some track day work.
The 749 was just a track day tool with top fairing without headlghts, just swapedd the fairings & put all the road gear back on as it wasnt getting much use

  16. Sound fair prices. All the QB is Autoclaved pre-preg and just for info their fairing looks to be one inside layer of carbon Kevlar with an outer of just carbon. So thin you can see through it.
It's only the stuff I throw together in the garage that's cheaply made but it lets me make one offs afforable as I don't need to pay the massive labour charges.

  17. Good description that Vtwindave:upyeah:

  18. @tonyg-p - so is it your business or do you work for them? , what resin systems are you using, and as a mean, what do your tanks and fairings weigh, and how are your tanks sealed?

@1037sps - so qb are finally 'claving their stuff now?
One ply of carbon kevlar hybrid over carbon is not necessarily a bad thing. What can you see through? is it the surface ply over the hybrid or right through the whole thing?

    :)

  19. The Carbon Kevlar is on the inside, with the carbon carbon on the outside. It's perfectly finished, no voids or pin holes, but hold it up in the sun and you can see light through it. Not everywhere, just the larger flat areas. I'm gonna have a play with it over the weekend so I'll take a photo and get you a weight for it.
