as title says I bought a yam xj 900 for £60, it's a runner what do I do with it. and why did I buy the frikken thing.

I quite like that....but again, it depends on if you want to spend your money on that sort of project. You wouldn't get your money back on it though....
60 quid isn't much in the grand scheme of things. If you start some sort of project, just think how much of your life you're going to waste. How much is your time worth? So either get stuck right in because it's what you really want, or write off the 60 quid. Or just break the thing into bits and sell on eBay to recoup loss.

yeah I'm in the process now,it's only going to be a run around but I'm pleasantly supprised. It only needs a new collector box, fork seals,and screen bcause its not original and maybe some new rubber seals on the carbs to the inlets but next time i run it up I'll spray some brake cleaner on them and see if the engine note changes (revs rise) because they seem to be a bit perished,but that doesn't mean they are fooked all the way through. I reckon it's a £600-800 bike cleaned up. But why dont bike manufacturers anodise ally as a matter of course, the whole engine would look as good as new if it was anodised at the start of the production run ,or is that their way of ensuring people buy new.
maybe its because 'sounds of the 60's' is on the radio now, but sounds like an ideal cafe racer project...
Well, thought it would be time for an update.... I've now done 1000km on the Yamasaki (now showing 7250 km) and have had no issues as such. the battery seemed to be struggling to hold 100% charge, so i checked the connections to the starter motor, sure enough they were very heavily corroded. The earth point for the whole bike is a single point on one starter mounting bolt, so I ran an extra earth point to the other one and cleaned every connection and coated them with silicone grease. so far no further issues. Other than that, I ditched the 'ABS' valve on the front brake, and lost the emission control valve from the engine, as it does nothing other than pipe fresh air into the exhaust. these systems do nothing of actual value, so I blanked it off. its running very well, starts keenly and does exactly what it was bought for. cant grumble, its even kinda fun..
I have one of those, shes done 53k, runs fine, passed the mot with NO advisories the other day. BUT.............................. its also quite shit.
