Just bought a Pal's Hypermotard 796 - 2012 year, with 5,800km ..... Never having owned a Ducati, was hoping you learned people could give me tome tips and tricks i can do to it, to improve the riding experience..... It has a Zard end can and has been remapped...... Gut feeling is that it needs the 15T engine sprocket changed to a 16T to calm it down a bit - has anyone here done such a mod ? A bloke down the pub reccons a good mod is to have a DNA (re-usable) air filter fitted and drill a dozen or so holes in the air box lid to help it "breathe" - anyone done such mods ? I've seen on the t'internet a white sticker kit, which breaks up the red nicely and looks (imho) like it was done at the factory - has anyone fitted such stickers ? even though low km's - i'm feeling it may be prudent to change the tyres...looking on t'internet Dablo Rosso 2 look good VFM - anyone have any esperience of their rad holding / lastability..... Any other improvements you've done, you don't mind sharing ? Thanks for listening ! .
Iv used the diablo rosso tyres on various bikes and found them to be more than up to the task plus not short on life span.id be a bit wary of drilling the airbox, iv heard a lot of stories of air filters actually reducing power but not sure for your bike.
Um, it's a Hyper, so "...calm it down..." - WTF! Haha, up to you, but I'm not sure there's room for a 16T front sprocket. Probably easier to go down a few on the rear instead, but obviously chain length comes into this. Perhaps your desire to calm it down is because it's your first punchy big twin and you're not used to it?? Looks like it's got RossoII's on it. My 939 Hyper has them as standard and they've been ok so far - but I'm tempted by the Bridgestone S22s when the time comes as I've been reading good things about them. Loony acceleration is addictive on the Hyper and that wears the centre all too well....
My cartilage is in the process of giving up on my left knee, my lower back gives bother, my sciatic nerve is giving probs, iv a pinched nerve in my neck that radiates into my fingers, my upper back hurts.........
My remark meant with humour! Hand arthritis today was a bitch... Every loon-at-heart should try one tho'. I was going to look at a RNine then realised I'm still really 25 in my head! I find the upright stance & authority with the wide bars very comfy - I can't ride a bicycle even over bumps in the road because of neck damage, so feel a little of your pain....
Cool Hyper... Welcome aboard Most fun I’ve had on two wheels riding one of these... Problem is I’m not keen on prison food and would definitely turn me into a Hooligan
1) Its a JT sprocket (made in Bangkok) - they make more sprockets than anyone else - if a 16T didn't fit, they would have received complaints years ago and stopped selling them, so i'm pretty confident it will be ok......The cost is about 20 quid, so it's worth the punt...... 2) Loony acceleration is ok on a sunday morning in the middle of nowhere - but for me, day to day - it's bonkers - i'm hoping the 16T calms it down - i did a similar swap on my KTM Duke and that transformed the bike for the better... .
Welcome aboard , enjoy your new bike Running S22’s on my PP , and I like them a lot. The air box thing sounds similar to porting your AP50 when you were little ... that’s not actually a super duke is it ?
its a humble 390 Duke .... AP50 - blimey that takes me back - i has a Fantic Ti Cherry 50cc - which lasted about 6 months and replaced by Malaguti Olimpique which didn't fare much better ..... .
OEM's spec the aircleaner such that it has redundant capacity at its service interval. Unlikely it will improve performance unless the engine performance has been 'greatly improved'. What panel filters etc do is make it louder so it sounds faster....
1st ever bike was an Ap50 Nailed it everywhere till the rotary disc valve decided to explode and exit via the carb a week later it had a A100 motor bolted straight in... Naughty brakes were appalling though Heard some horror stories concerning that particular brand of sprockets....
Welcome - wouldn’t mess about with cheap sprockets - get used to it first and enjoy it for the bike you bought
