Just One Last Ride...

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Moorland Monster, Mar 21, 2024.

  1. I got a 2014 Multistrada 1200S in November, and told myself I would sell my Monster 821 come the spring. I've just taken the Monster for it's MOT which to all intents and purposes should have been my final ride on it.

I've have come back with a pass and an enormous smile on my face and am now wondering whether I should sell it after all.

Does anyone have any advice for me? The heart and the head are really doing battle at the moment, the monster sale was going to fund various MTS accessories and garage upgrades so I can do all my own maintenence... which I suppose I can do anyway.

    Damn it!

  2. If you can afford to keep it then do. If I had the funds and frankly the time to make use of one I'd have a monster, or an MV Brutale, alongside my Multi.

  3. Forum count:
“I’m glad I sold it, new bike completely filled the gap the old one left”: 0
“I wish I’d kept it, love the new bike but miss the old one too: 10,231

If we all bought and sold with our heads, we would probably mostly be riding BMW GS1200/1250 :)

  4. ...so glad i'm not the only one here. :upyeah: I can't help you because i could almost toss a coin up some days.
You could write down the "For" and "Against" reasons for selling on a piece of paper and then take time to reflect on this maybe.

  6. Lad logic....

    1. Person buys bike = bike is the best thing ever....
    2. Time passes by.....person sees other bike at the bike shop/car park/on a ride out....wants bike..
    3. Seed planted....person then sells soul/whatever cash is required to get said bike....
    4. Rinse and repeat.....

    My theory....
    1. Buy bike of "type that you like" and enjoy.....
    2. See other bike that you like - get bike....
    3. See other bike you like - get bike...
    4. See other bike you like - get bike.... (over the space of 10 years)

    Lad logic at work.....
    1. Go to bike shop/meet/whatever....see bike (and ill use myself here) and see latest superduke....
Well, ive got a z1000 in the garage specced perfectly how i want it.....look at superduke....ive got nigh on the same bike....if anything mine bespoke to me so id have to go through all that costly shit again to get it the same way....
    2. Go to bike shop/meet/whatever....see bike - i this case....sports bike...Fireblade latest model....well, ive got an RSV4 in the garage with NiX30 front and TTX2 rear full system plus a host of other mods....so id have to pay another 10k to enjoy the same bike with electronics...get my gist....?
    3. Go to bike shop/meet/whatever....see bike (Spanky new Hyper) well, ive got one at home...
    4. Having a few bikes...means that when you dont use one for a while (went out on the RSV4 on sunday to turn the engine over after 5 months in storage) - after 10 years of ownership riding that thing is an occasion...always has been. But i hear you say "comfy we dont have endless amounts of money to keep buying bikes!" mine all cost under 8k - so all three cost the same as a top end sports bike...

So having 3 bikes...i say 3 ive got my old mans restored 400/4 which i never expected to have but i own that for personal sentimental reasons....but having the 3 types of bike that i like...stops me buying more bikes...the only thing that would make me part with them if money was absolutely no object (or my life situation changes)...

Dont get me wrong the latest and greatest would be nice but for example Ghostrider manages to evade pretty well anything on an old gsxr with nil electronics...so what ive got is more than enough for me...but thats me personally...

Up til now the theory is holding water....

  7. Ha ha thanks a lot guys, I think you've made me feel better about keeping it. I'll take it out for a few more rides to be sure over the next few weeks, but I really can't believe how i felt about it riding it today. They get under your skin don't they...

  8. Well, its more a case of choice....as i say....the fact that my zed is my daily driver means that riding the other 2 (moreso the RSV4) is that because i dont use it much - its the occassion (its like ive just bought it, ive ridden it a few times, and im just getting used to it)....it doesnt cost a great deal to run - its a toss up this year between the RSV4 and the Hyper to go to the TT.....but the rsv might win it as this will be the first time it been with the NiX30's on the front...Hyper would be more fun on the country roads but i took another hyper 1100 about 10 years back an it ran out of steam on the mountain (they top out at 130)....anyway - enjoy and id say - if you see another bike you want get it as well....

Plus - your saving the planet....you can only ride one at a time...so theres that as well..
