  11. Orville has arranged the funeral - you should see the size of the bill

  12. You've obviously not watched a close relative receive death at the hand of this disease otherwise you would not be commenting the way you are. I am becoming very disillusioned with this. You post the fact that someone has died, then proceed to take the piss. What is wrong with people today, do they think they are immune? Take the piss by all means, but not at some else's agonising and painful disease. Drama queen all you want. I am bursting to say more, but I like to think I am above that.

  13. Obviously you're not very impressed with this thread now, but was there not a time in the dim and distant past when you would've had a bit of a giggle?

  14. Not at some one else 's demise pal, never. Not my style. So don't point your fricken finger at me:Finger::Finger::Finger::Finger::Finger::Finger::Finger:

  15. Oh dear. Temper temper. I thought I was expressing myself in a calm, reasonable, polite and non finger pointing way. :(

  16. I watched my Father pass from colon cancer. I sympathise with anyone who has gone through this sort of thing - it isn't fun or funny at the time.

The type of thread we have here appears in every forum I've ever seen.
Jokes at the expense of deceased celebrities. It's not a new phenomenon, and I don't see it ending any time soon, either. If anyone takes exception to such a thread, I would not presume to tell them to grow a thicker skin, nor to avoid such threads in future. I wouldn't dream of telling anyone to do this, any more than I would tell people not to post such threads in the future. People do what they do and we are all free to ignore, join in or feel offended, as conscience dictates.

We all deal with grief from bereavement in different ways. Making light of the passing of a celebrity may not be the most thoughtful, kindest or sensitive of actions ... but it isn't unusual, nor is it in any objective sense "wrong". Threads like this happen and I prefer to see that we feel free to express ourselves in this way - rather than seeing some kind of censorship (or self-censorship) that prevents people from speaking for fear of breaking some unknown and unknowable code of conduct regarding the "giving of offence".

  17. Good post Loz.

NB: It wasn't until post 13 that any reference to the way he died (i.e. cancer) even got a mention.

  18. Makes a change for a TV entertainer not to get arrested for putting his hand up a young bird's arse...

  19. Would it be to obscure to think that jokes in certain circumstances could be considered a celebration of what made the celebrity a celebrity in the first place ? An acknowledgement that their talent or key attribute or talent made its mark on society. After all those that sought the stage may see the irony and celebrate the limelight even after passing.
And sometimes the manner of passing gives a bit of a useful
Profile to some of the many nasty illnesses that exist, for future good.
