Right, buought me the 1098s last week. MINT ! Well happy. The seller couldnt find the all important key code card for the bike :Rage: I called to Ducati UK. They said there is no way to retrieve the code or get a new card :Wideyed: .......................if the card is stamped when it was producded at the factory with the number, surely there has to be a record somewhere? tks
lol... got 1 key, the other he is sending up, in his safe at work. I just think its extraordinary that other maufactuers can supply the code but Ducati say they cant.
The code card is important for the 848/1098/1198 as it allows new keys to be programmed to the clocks and also new clocks to be programmed to keys. There is no red key with these bikes. Also it allows the immo to be bypassed, but in all my years of owning a Ducati I've not had to use this. However, I am aware others have. It is possible to retrieve the information but it is not a cheap process. Motomatrix| The Solution For Lost Motocycle Coded Keys| ECU Repairs may be able to help. Riderlogic home page can definitely help but are in Australia. Make sure you keep your spare key safe in the meantime. It is possible to clone the keys if all you have is the one.
Until you come to sell it then you will find that it is important enough for someone to chip you a good £500 .
As this is what it costs for a second hand locks set with clocks, you need to get some discount at least! Or return it and start again ;-)
Well folks.... thanks for all the replies above. I will have both keys so it should never really be an issue. @chrisw I spoke to Motomatrix| The Solution For Lost Motocycle Coded Keys| ECU Repairs last week. So if you send them the dash, they can plug in some sort of doofer thingy which can read bineary codes and the matrix. This will enable them to extract the 10 digit code from the dash, so all is not lost...Cost is appx £200 stg. Not too bad. Cheers for the link man. tks agin for the replies. Case closed!
This is, or will soon be able to be sorted with RexXer. It was discussed with us during a training course last month. Similar criteria in that I'd need the dash, but I don't think it's so expensive. They'll be able to generate a complete set of keys incl. Red for the older bikes as well. I'll see if I can dig out more info.
As regards to the hopeless Imobilizer unit on these bikes, its actually quite handy to have the code. It can actually get you home, should you ride in rain and have the IMO fault happen.....
