Does anyone know anywhere in the London area I can get a blank Ducati key cut using the single key Ducati supplies as a pattern? Timpsons and others have said they don't have the tools necessary and it's company policy not to cut customers' own blanks. Thanks.
Unfortunately "company policy" is being imposed on all the franchised key cutter heel bars and it is getting very difficult to find someone. The lack of tools is bollocks because when I did find a bloke running a little booth inside a shopping centre prepared to cut a key for my Multistrada, he used his grinder to cut the "laser" pattern and the key works fine in both the petrol cap and pannier locks. I am afraid you are going to have to ask around very time you see a key cutters and hope the guy will do you a favour - at full retail as if he had sold you the key mind you. Andy
Perhaps take along your V5 to show you own the bike - it's not exactly 'proof' that you own the bike that the key is for, but it goes someway to show it's a legitimate request.
Yup had the same problem. First one I went to said it was not Company policy to cut keys that they had not supplied. So I said fine do you have a blank Ducati key ? He said no he would have to order one from Ducati. So I said I'll save you the trouble I have one here. Still no joy. Apparently they have cut keys supplied by customers that have broken in locks and then have to pay to fix it. No problem said I, I will take all responsibility. OK he says providing you sign a disclaimer. Sure but please just cut the bloody key, please. Sorry mate we do not have any disclaimer forms ! At which point I walked out. Then found another who very sensibly cut it for me providing I took all responsibility. Bloody hell what a performance over a key. So in short just keep trying until you find someone with sense.
Yep, similar problems. Couldn't find anywhere in Guildford that would cut it, despite the key being in a ducati plastic bubble thing, sealed with the label, and me having the receipt. The big problem is the cheapo keys on sale on fleabay are made of crap metal. The keys deform real easy. There is a place in Holborn that eventually cut mine. They are by the bus stop in Procter Street. Cost me over 10 quid to have it done though ! Same story, he went on about it needing to be lazer cut, and then he did it with the usual key grinder I didn't realise key cutting had got so expensive...
Again same problem here . No one wanted to do it as their insurance does not cover customer supplied keys in their machines,,,and you guessed it, they don't have the blade style of keys to order either. In the end I got it done for £2.50 on my supplied Monster blank by a great shop in Gosport last weekend. As other have said persevere and you'll get one in the end. The smaller outfits seem more accommodating.
After having similar problems with Timpsons who would only cut and clone a transponder key but wouldn't cut a plain transponderless key even if they supplied it, I went to a local locksmith who ordered a blank for me - JMA ZA14P. When it came in a few days later he cut it to match my handsfree key. Total cost £10.

Not sure where you are Speed Triple, but Snells sorted me out with a spare (non-transponder) key blank and got their local locksmith to cut it for me. If you live close it would be worth giving them a call to find out who they use?
same here, had a couple of keys cut for other bike and van and guy said they dont cut others metal 'they break guv' so asked if he could get a blank monster key 'sorry cant get those as we cant program then' doh!
got my new key 1200 abs non chipped key cut locally for £12 all in. the blank you need is silca ZD 30T5 , chap said he could copy chipped key if needed - not sure he could but cheap and local - to pass on to others
In case you haven't sorted this, I had to buy a blank key for my Monster from Metropolis. I took it with the master to Fortress in Streatham Hill and they did a perfect job.
