Keyless fuel cap

  1. Anyone got one (that works!)?

I've ordered one and was hoping to collect the bike (after its 600 mile service) with it fitted.

The dealer called me to say they have now gone through 3 of them trying to get one fitted that works.

They think they've got a "faulty batch". They are sending them back to Ducati for review. Once that's done Ducati will contact the dealer and let them (and me) know what they will do next.

    Any views...

...and yes, I am lazy enough to still want one !!!

  2. I fitted mine myself just after I bought it (2010) and its never missed a beat (watch it bloody fail now)

Very happy with it, never take my key out of my jacket, and think its a great feature

From memory they did recall the very 1st ones that came on the market, and I understand mine is the modified version, but I wouldn't know how to tel...?

    Hope this helps

  3. Had mine fitted from new, 3300 mile and been fine, I`m one lazy bastard

  4. Does the feature have to be enabled in the software ?

  5. Mine didn't.. Just plug n go..!

  6. It seems that some bikes need it enabled. Not quite sure if this is the way they do the PDI or what, but it definitely seems some need enabling and others dont.

I have had mine fitted since July 2010, and it gave me a few problems when about a year in. In practice I don't think it was the filler, but a poor connection. Consequently I have mine fitted so that I can get to the connector if I need to.
That said, I could promote it togo wrong by pushing the filler closed with the tab lifted (a bit like the solenoid was in the wrong state when it was closed).

I think its great. Just wish they had fitted c/l to the panniers and top box too
I have investigated enabling this myself, and still working on it in slow time.

  7. Had the exact same scenario.

My dealer spent over 3 hours with mine on my GT.

They could not get it to lock and when it finally locked it took them forever to unlock.

The removed it and also sent it back.

Not good at all to be fair but my dealer done everything they could to get it working.

Here is hoping there was a batch that is faulty.

  8. I didn't know that ducati made one! Should be fitted as standard. Does my head trying to find my key in the petrol station. What kind of money are they?

  9. Just off the top of my head i"m S ure it was just over the £200 mark fitted by the dealer.

  10. Thanks all. I managed to get a good deal (<£160) as a I bought a few extras with the bike.

Hopefully, they will come back with good news but understand it won't be for some time yet.

Hoping John W can work some magic on the panniers too!!!

  11. I had mine fitted during the 600 mile service in May. No problems so far (touch wood!) and much prefer it to the keyed filler.

  12. They were listed at £160.
If you buy at the time you buy the bike you should be able to get 10 to 20% off.
They can be fitted at home, but does take a time as loads of panels need to come off. I did a writeup which should be on Andy W's site somewhere.

    redblade,
I've got it on my list behind about 300 other jobs (mainly put on it by the wife !), including heated seats :biggrin:

(Cue serious piss taking from all and sundry...)

Currently focusing on trying to get our van looking like a camper as we go away in it in 6 weeks

  13. Had mine on for 3 years and though having given me a few scares which required re-firing/closing the ignition, it has never totally failed (yet). I do carry an Allen key for it, but tried to remove it recently to repaint some damage and saw that you need to drop the tank panels off to get to the connections, so not great if it does totally fail! Kind of wish I had invested the 200 quid in one of those race type, no lock jobs instead now?

  14. I've had them on both my old 2010 model (15k miles) and on my new 2013 model (2k miles) - no problems.
