I'm thinking of replacing my Honda and want to get back on a big twin. Sadly, my budget doesn't run to a Multistrada 1200, and I'm seeking an alternative to the obvious GS. Has anyone any experience with them?
My experience is limited to a one hour test ride. That said, I thought it was an absolute hoot to ride. It was fast and agile. Importantly, it seemed as much fun to ride at 40 as at 80+. The 'fairings' and screen did a decent job at keeping the wind off as well. I just wasn't completely sold on the looks & being short in the leg, it was slightly too tall for me. If you don't mind the slightly angular look, I would say the SMT is an excellent choice. Good test report here from the much-missed Kevin Ash: KTM 990 SM T | Ash On Bikes
A friend of mine had 2 of these and said they were brilliant bikes, a bit of a wheelie machine by all accounts !. Personally i thought they were great looking bikes and sounded great with Akra cans on.
Cracking bike. Try and buy one with the essential mods like the Akras and remap-smooths the power out lovely. Loads of mods you can do, check out the UK KTM forum. Try and get one with the Oberon clutch slave cylinder, the standard ones are weak
I had the earlier 950SM and to this day I haven't had a road bike that's been as much fun, not that keen on the SMT styling myself but knowing what it would be like wouldn't stop me owning one
