Lake Annecy Trip

  1. Any roads around the area that are a must to ride guys. Went last year but did mostly passes. Plan to stay a little lower this year.

  2. The mountains are all nice around there, but if you want some quick, excellent tarmac with knee down corners (but you will have to blast an odd car - not that you will notice!), take the D1508 to Bellegare, then pick up the D1084 to Nantua, and then the D979 to just outside Bourg-en-Bresse.

Then have chicken and chips for lunch and head back towards Annecy over the mountains to the north through the smaller roads through the Jura hills (moutains!). Pick a route to suit your time allowance, they are good up there.

Or head to Chamonix area via the D1508 to Ugine (a drag), then the D1212 through Flumet, Megeve, Sallanches. That's a fantastic but very dodgy road. Do not get tempted to go into corners too fast, they are first/second gear tight in places there and blind as you like. But a fantastic road..... had a slight run through there with a Ferrari following me last year - and we were pressing on that's for sure!

  3. CIMG2978.jpg I was round that way last week, Cannes>Grenoble (Route Napoleon) >Annecy. Superb roads, plenty ups and downs and twisties to contend with the weather was superb only getting a little misty and cold on the higher climbs. Sadly I didn't have much time to explore Annecy as we arrived late and left early, looked stunning though. The Multi was superb, even fully laden with all the boxes and huge roll bag.

  4. Head for Chatel, stunning roads and the place is wonderful

  5. You could do Bourg St Maurice, Val D'Isere and over Col Du Mont Cenis, one of the most stunning lakes on the Mont Cenis road and a great road down in to Italy. Avoid the Autostrada and find a back road heading west back in to France. A great day out.

  6. Great guys. I will get the old map out and get planning. Keep em comin!!

  7. +1 for Chatel, rode through there from Switzerland to Geneva last year and it was awsome. Met some local guys on Harleys that were customised for the local roads, higher pegs and pipes, proper section tyres, rode with them for about 10 miles, very surreal

  8. Chatel is a blast - proper quick roads. Morzine to Chatel is a great road. Careful as you get to the Swiss French border though outside Chatel, easy to go through that at 150kmph! oops officer!

Bourg St Mouritz I also concur. If you ride from there to the Col de Saint Bernard, and take the petite San Bernadino pass that's a stunner too...... and you can imagine yourself in the Italian job as you ride into Aosta, then over into Chamonix.

So many roads! Glidd lives out there too.......

  9. Yet to here from him about this. Do you thinks he's croaked it?

  10. A must do, my favourites in the area tbh. I enjoy them best going France, Italy, Switzerland direction. Some good roads just below Lake Geneva south to Les Gets also. Plus Savines-le-Lac....a good area all round keeping off the Route National, with the exception of the N85 Route Napoleon..I just cant remember which are the good bits on that one!
