Landrover too good to be true? eBay Scam?

  1. 2007 LAND ROVER FREELANDER 2 TD4 S | eBay

Is this a dodgy one? There is no feedback, only been a member since August.

It's a 7grand car, for sale at a bargain price. The HPI checking services come back clear with only a change of number plate from a private plate to a standard one in 2010.

I've emailed the seller and if I get a response I will ask for a picture of the VIN and the logbook together so I can compare the numbers.

I'm obviously overseas so I can't go and check it myself.

Seems too good to be true...

    Any ideas?

I know it's not a Duc, but these kind of deals seem to turn up a lot so there is some forum experience...

  2. it doesn't look to have the tell tale highlighting solution marks or hair clippers left on the seat……..id say dodgy.

  3. Seems to be genuine. Over 100k miles so that could be reflected in the price. Where is it tom? If its quite local I could see if I can look over it for you.

  4. It doesn't say on the ad, but if you sort the results by distance from our area it's 135 miles away. I appreciate the offer though.

    A 100k 2007 Freelander 2 is still a £7k ish car.

I can't find an exact copy of the description through a google search and I can't find any other Freelanders in a price range even close that hasn't been crashed and CAT C'd.

And Andyb - it's for my missus so it can be as hairdresser as it likes ;) I'm not buying her a discovery as she wont be able to park it!

  5. difficult one, no feedback/conflicting mileages/no 'close' location given certainly isn't encouraging.

  6. have you run the index through any of the check sites including the dvla one...

  7. Then it probably is...

  8. Before handing over any cash I'd want to see, touch and feel it.

  10. could do here too….

    askMID

  11. I had a 2008 transit 2.2 tdci 110 / 300 with twin side sliding doors in almost as good as new condition from ebay in 2011 , it was a former police evidence van with 90,000 miles for £5000 . A good buy at the time ,so there is genuine stuff for very good money out there.

  12. I paid for a vehicle check and it came back as clean, I haven't had a reply and I made it pretty clear (s)he could have the asking price today if (s)he replied and answered a few questions and showed the authenticity.

If I don't hear anything back then I will just assume it was dodgy.

  13. Never assume to assume ,always a bad assumption.

Pete1950 will be along soon to give me the legal standpoint of why I'm at fault.

  15. Is it Panto Season?

    Oh yes you will.

  16. Ignore the HPi check. If it's a cloned ad then it'll be HPi clean. There's been a few adverts recently using old ebay details, then they'll tell you that you pay the money to ebay who hold it until you've received the vehicle and are happy with it. They tell you that if you're not then ebay refund you, and if you are then the payment is released to the seller. It's all bollocks. They send you a duff ebay link and you never see the money again.

  17. And I've just loooked at the ebay ad. Look at the pictures, when was the last time we had sunny summer weather in December.....

  18. My missus is off viewing a Nissan Qashqai now that is much more legitimate so this auction is a no go for me. Still, if it is real, its a very good price for a nice car.

  19. is it me or has the ad changed on the link….

  20. Oh no I won't!
