Laser Jammer Things

  1. Fairly certain I got zapped on Sunday by South Yorkshire’s finest. Just waiting for the letter :(
What’s the story with jammers? I believe you can buy them but they’re highly illegal to use? Duh...
Do any of our sunny day power rangers on here have any tips. Apart from don’t speed. Not possible :)

  2. The latest generation of mobile speed detectors are touted as having tucked you up before you even see it. There was an article about a set up in Swindon on the A419 last year that claimed the camera was able to identify driving style, vehicle type specific speed limits and facial recognition up to 3 miles away. Andy

  3. You get serious financial penalty for having one now. Just find a quiet place & ride it to clear the route & then turn around & start again too do your 200mph speed run!!!

  4. Hmmm, that doesn’t sound good. This thing looked a killer. It was on the fly with a camera turret. Never seen one before. I didn’t properly ping it til I was about 200 metres from it. Thought it was a fekin ambulance :( doh!!

  5. It would appear from both articles, their equipment can detect the use of a jammer so even without the physical evidence, I have a strong suspicion British magistrate courts will find you guilty. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Andy

  6. I had one a few years back. I really doubt they perform any useful function or stop anything the old bill have, which will be many times more powerful anyway. As said, they dont like you spoiling their fun and will take pleasure in nailing you to the nearest mast when they know you have one (and they do know). I rely on a GPS based system now. It 'knows' most hot spots and reminds me not to drive like a doofus when near them.
North York's has always been a hotspot targeting bikers in general and speeding specifically. They have no fixed cameras at all, but a real army of mobile units

  7. There it is .... right there !
[ need an emoji of a nail being hit on the head .... :) ]

Radar jammers definitely work , no question ( leaving aside the legal aspect of it ) .

    But LIDAR jammers ?
I seriously doubt that they work .... it would need a powerful laser source that was carefully dispersed
to cover a broad target area ...... eg. Officer Dibble hiding behind a bush .

Perhaps the military have them as a defence against an enemy aircraft "painting" a target with laser light
in order to guide bombs in ?

In the circumstances you describe , I would be assuming that I'd been well and truly nicked ,....

  8. This might help it might not (if you get the dreaded letter through the door).....my mate works for a certain agency - he`s got off a couple of times using these tactics...

    1. If its a laser based system that got you....sounds weird but, ask for the calibration certificate.....(my mate did this, they couldnt produce it - he got away with it based on the fact they couldnt verify it was accurate)
    2. You have 6 months at the time of each correspondance to reply - get to the last month then make a request...photographic evidence, calibration information whatever.....my mate, again dragged it out over 2 years....they gave up and just cancelled it....
    3. He did also on one instance say that he saw the officer leaning against the car.....then took the angle (something to do with grounding the gun while he was using it...) - got off with that one also....

Long shots but thats what he told me....

  9. I remember when living in the states, an awful lot of homes had electric garage doors and the openers were either by a remote fob or built into the unit by the rear view mirror. Quite a few were found to block radar guns but the difficulty was when you were stopped by plod 20 miles from home and you use the "i was trying to open my garage door"

  10. "Sorry officer, i was sitting on my garage door opener."

    :D

    On a side note.

At least here in Norway, radio frequencies are heavily regulated. So something that emits radar signals over a broad spectrum will be frowned upon, just because of that.

For lasers the power is limited by regulation. But lasers are free to use i am guessing, but possibly not if it is designed to disrupt speed measurements? But how about laser distance measuring? "Yes officer, i wanted to know the distance to the car in front of me ... For SAFETY!"

I see a lot of truckers use mirrors in their cab or hang CDs. I 'think' this is to scare police from pointing a laser at them since there is a risk this will go straight back into their viewfinder.

  11. The laws vary from state to state .
Friends in Florida would have them openly on show and couldn't care less if the cops saw the devices .
Different story in Louisiana and Tennessee ..... get them out of sight ..... asap

  12. No way. You surely can’t be convicted without evidence. Obviously if the cops find your device, you’ve had it. But if they don’t....

  13. As mentioned before, covering the front of your vehicle with old CD's make you invisible :p:D

  16. Well I’ve just experimented with mine. And covering it with ductape seems to work a treat! Cellotape not so.... :):upyeah:

  17. It’s been a while since I’ve used radar speed detectors.

Typically, the device would be in sleep mode until you saw a target vehicle, therefore emitting zero signals, then you’d aim and pull the trigger getting a instant lock and speed display. Job done.

There would be very little opportunity for a jammer to work.
I can’t speak for modern devices, I suspect that both Jammers and detectors have upped their game.

A jammer might pick up a radar gun in use on another vehicle in front of you though and hence give you early warning?

  18. I’ve always wondered (on a bike) if it’s worth removing no plate and carrying it in your jacket, if stopped by plod, just say it’s just fell off officer and it’ll be affixed in its rightful place as soon as I get home?
