1200 DVT Later 4v Shim Kit

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Slippery Sam, Oct 16, 2022.

  1. What are people doing these days in the uk for shims. Was intending buying a desmo times (ems) kit but they won’t ship to uk.
Are dealer stocks pretty good (strip and measure one day, pick up shims from dealer next day)? I’m a 100 miles round trip to dealer so not round the corner.
No-one selling a kit for a multi by any chance? Even well used and I’d top it up first.
    Cheers

  2. I had similar issues, couldn't find anywhere in the UK, dealer wouldn't sell me their stock shims, would only order new ones from the factory which meant a 1-2 week wait. Fell lucky with a guy in USA selling them on eBay, around £270 iirc.

  3. Ah - didn’t think about trying US eBay- I’ll give that a try
    Thanks for a great tip.

  4. I've been looking around for you, nothing available that I can find, would be good if one of the USA members would be kind enough to buy the kit from Desmo Times, you pay them for the kit and postage and they post to you.

  5. Would definitely be very grateful if that could work. I have no friends in the US so would need to be a kind soul on here. Even if someone in the states had a used kit, I’d have that in a heartbeat.

  6. If it helps I live in the EU and would post them to you, if you can get them to me...(France) :upyeah:

  7. Oh, that looks like a possibility and they do mention international delivery. I’m just heading out the door but will, check I’m ordering the right kit (does multistrada 1200dvt 2015 = 4V later model 7mm kit) and try to order/checkout tonight.

  8. Thanks all
Got the kit ordered from motowheels.
Delivery was a bit stiff at 60 bucks but hayho. Will await the vat and customs charges but again not much choice there.
Let’s see how long it takes. Will report back

  9. Glad you got it sorted, it's a bit of a sting upfront but, the savings you'll make by doing the valves yourself will soon soak that up.

  10. Did you get the shim kit?

  11. Yeh, got my shim kit - was a bit of a faf though. Ended up paying about 300 for kit, 60 for delivery and a further 60 for customs. Nearly missed the package too because the post office post carded the wrong address so I didn’t know it was with them awaiting customs payment. I caught it the day before they were going to return it to the supplier.
I also bought a starobd machine to do the resets
I’ve been waiting to make space in my lockup so I can get going - will do it soon though and looking forward to doing it.
    Regards

  12. They seem to be the only supplier in world that are selling shim kits. I checked on their website and they are doing free delivery. It comes in at just over £200 plus the import tax

  13. There can’t be enough people doing their own Desmo services in Europe, crazy that you/we can only get kits from thousands of miles away.

  14. Forgot to ask. Roughly how long did the kit take to arrive? without the issues you had with delivery.
My bike is stripped down with the horizontal shims out. Going to ask my local independent garage today if they will do a shim exchange, if not I’ll order that kit from Motowheels.

  15. Without the issues, a little over a week. Probably about the same as ordering the correct individual shims from your friendly dealer.
