A couple of times my bike has lost all power and when tried to start its like the side stand is down and it just cuts out and the gear indicator flicks between gears and says wrong gear and neutral like flicks on and power surges and cuts out and comes back. This seems to occur in the rain. Where should I start looking ? P.s I just replaced clutch slave unit with oberon one , so maybe messed something up Regards Chris Multi Owner gradually rebuilding it , part by part as it breaks.
I had a similar cutting out problem so I'd try lubing the side stand switch first. Take it off, give it a good squirting with WD40 and ACF50 if you got some. Then do the same with the block connector just in case there's any corrosion. They do suffer with side stand switch problems so it may need replacing but just lubricating it worked for me. Admittedly my gear position display wasn't affected.
Gear positing sensor is a known issue. It sits at the back of the engine/gearbox, by the back wheel, easily visible from the right hand side of the bike. Check the connector block for corrosion and if ok, consider replacement of the whole sensor where required. See item 6 in the diagram below. Thank you for the post with all the details , I rode back (110 miles) in the dry and everything was perfect same (110 miles ) in rain constant problems . I will review the thread and notes tomorrow and provide feedback . It's helped already as I know where to look ! Thanks again really appreciate the advice .
Identified the sensor and the connector from your post and diagrams and read up about it in workshop manual and it seems replacement of the sensor would need to be done at a dealer as it needs the DDS unit is that correct due to the below ? The real puzzle is that if its wear why does it only seem to occur in rain , the connector is tucked away under the seat so puzzled where water could impact it. Basically just puzzled , will replace but again it seems a bit hit and miss even the manual says if that doesn't work replace the BBS unit. Diagnosis by part replacement a novel approach. Thank you Chris Extract from workshop manual. "replace the gear sensor then perform the gear self-acquisition procedure." "The gear self-acquisition procedure must be launched from the DDS instrument." "If the fault has not been resolved, replace the BBS unit"
