I don't want to come across as complaining here, but what's up with these shift lights? I know they're supposed to be progressive but man, on the few times I've been able to open up the pipes on my bike, I'm usually hitting the rev limiter without even one light. I read somewhere that the tach just can't keep up with the revs of the bike, but that seemed like a bit of a cop out to me. My other bikes have had adjustable, perfectly working shift lights. As what to me is a high end bike, it seems like something so... common... should be better sorted. And if they weren't able to get the progressive lights right, they should of just left them off... Maybe it's just me being picky after finally getting my dream bike
They just come on in the last few hundred revs, so generally by the time you see them you are on the limiter. TBH I've never felt the need to use them as I try to shift before I get that close to the limiter.
I've just gotten this bike coming from a number of jap bikes (last bike was an R1). I've only had a chance to get a minimal amount of miles before 2nd winter hit my neck of the woods, so I'm still very much getting used to the ultra low (to me) rev limiter
Yep that makes sense, 8k-10500rpm seems to be where the guts of the power and torque are, which is probaly 3k revs lower than you are used too! Stick with it though.
I struggled going from an R1 to an 848 for a good few weeks. After decades of riding IL4s I had to reprogram myself to the different sound and characteristics of a twin. If I see the shift light the limiter is usually a blink away. For weeks I kept hitting the limiter (and said light), until I changed my riding style to fit the bike. Just takes a bit of adapting and you’ll be well away.
