Hi All Dont know if anyone can help but I seem to have a fault with my LCD display. One of the numbers for engine temperature is not displaying correctly , instead of looking like a 3 it still looks a 1?? Has anyone had a fault like this before and is it repairable?
It may be water ingress into the dash causing problems. I think you should be able to get the dash apart and see if you can clean it out - worst case is to take it off and leave it in a box with some rice in your airing cupboard for a couple of days - the heat will evaporate the water and the rice will soak it up. @chrisw should be able to give you some advice on this.
On other devices the usual suspect for LCD screen faults is the ribbon cable to the main board. There is a heat sensitive adhesive used to hold the ribbon cable in place and this can be effected by heat/cold cycles. Don't know if this applies to the 749/999 dash but it will be worth calling Mark at Scorpio to see if they can help. Scorpio Electronics - Contact
Mark helped me out a lot and supplied a conductive strip for my Muttley dash when it had some ingress and some of the segments went awol.
Took this dash apart today didn't disconnect anything as it all looked fine , didn't apply any brute force just gently opened it up , the only thing I did do was to slide out the glass that covers the LCD and put it all back together , plugged it back into the bike and now it's even worse!! All the LCD is mixed up can not read anything on there not even the "999" that comes on first and the immobiliser key symbol stays on and it won't start!Looks like it would have been a lot cheaper to make do with the one faulty number now it's all buggered.....didn't budget for this! Will have to make a few calls on Monday to Scorpio and Moto Rapido see what they recommend , think this is going to be expensive!!
Don't panic. Mark at Scorpio will be able to help. All you have probably done is displace the connector between the control board and the LCD.
Oh yes my dash is all sorted , Mark at Scorpio Electronics did a great job , quick and efficient now all my segments are working fine , turned out to be a faulty contact strip.
Died on me, apparently a blown transistor. @Drinky I did have a conversation with him about codes etc. Sure he told me he could copy one from the other, which would suggest he can read them. Got to be worth a call.
The contact strip is a kind of rubberised conductor that is sandwiched between the circuit board contacts and the LCD. The conductor moulds to the shape of the circuit board and as long as it is not disturbed all will be well. If you remove the LCD, or it shifts due to shock, say dropping then you loose the connection to some of the segments. If you are extremely lucky and put it back in exactly the same place you may restore function, but replacement is the preferred route. It is easier to assemble the dash using one of these than it is to solder multiple connections.
