Hi all, I’m off to Le Mans with a mate at the weekend, riding down from Paris on rented Africa Twins. Interested to hear any advice, must do’s and don’ts to make it a memorable experience! Also if anyone knows of any decent roads in the immediate area for a blast.
If you actually want to see the racing…either get in the stands or at a track side vantage point early in the morning. The alternative, somewhere without a good view, but next to a screen. Last year was manic, but a fantastic experience.
I had a seat in the stand that was not very good - at the end of the straight as the track moves away from you. Race day stood at the fence at the bottom of the track as the bikes approach the straight. People had arrived prepared with chairs and it was a well known popular spot. Entering the bike park area the officials put a sticker on the bike ( I put mine on my lid !) and they checked the paperwork when you left. They seemed serious about all checking paperwork, that which was a bit slow. On another trip I did the 24 Hour Circuit including the Mulsanne straight and some of the famous corners that are public roads - not great riding just fun thing to do. Have a great time and show us some pics !
Thanks all, really appreciate the responses. We could only get general admission tickets, the grand stands sold out quick. Any suggestions on the best places to watch, non-grandstand wise?
I thought this looked decent. Take a folding chair and all provisions! The fans will be on this corner early. …oh, and get right up to the fence, or some will want to squeeze in front of you later in the day!
Yep! Went the the Bol d'Or at the Circuit de Castellet 2 years back...all night long guys bouncing their bikes off the rev limiters...they were like packs of wolves howling at each other in the night.. Couldn't face it last year!
We are staying in an Airbnb locally so we should be ok for sleep. I wonder if we can re-enter the site later in the evening to witness it…
