1200 Enduro Leaking Coolant Header Bottle, And Spinning Tank Nuts

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by John W, May 20, 2021.

  1. Whilst being parked up in the garage over the last year doing next to bugger all, I noticed my bike was slightly incontinent. A newspaper under it showed it was a pink puddle.
After a bit of checking and inspection with the engine running I could see water was coming from underneath the steering head, and suspected a split coolant bottle.
    Anyone else experienced this ?

The bike is currently at the dealers having its 2nd annual service, and they have confirmed the bottle is split by the mounting holes. its being replaced under warranty thankfully (bike only has 3k5 miles on it).

Also, anyone had issues with the brass captive nuts in the tank spinning ?
My bike has a couple of them doing this, so is being replaced too.

  2. no experience of this particular bike but the "spinning nuts" saga is something that affects several models across the range and (if the same) is down to a simple design flaw..

  3. Thanks Chris. I've had 2 other Multistradas (still got one of them), and this enduro is the first one to do it.
I agree its a design flaw or manufacturing defect. Chances are the molded holes were too big, or the inserts arent knerled deep enough.
Pain in the arse when you want to check coolant level in the radiator and can't remove the panel to get to the cap :yum

I forgot to say, I raised the point that one insert was spinning at last years service, and this year another one was spinning. The only people to take the panel off was the supplying dealer, until I wanted to check coolant level a month or so back. I think the fact I raised that a year ago may of helped the warranty claim.
