1199 Leaking Rear Shock, Common Fault?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Bananaman, Feb 20, 2015.

  1. Bike was delivered in January and has been sat in the garage waiting for warm weather, noticed a pool of liquid near side stand, turns out the rear shock is knackered. Presently waiting for Ducati warranty repair. Just shows you, you never know what is next, you don't even need to ride it to break it.

  2. Jeez. Bad luck

  3. You sure it's not coolant. They are prone to leaking at the "spitter". This is where the top hose of the bottom radiator joins the engine, sitting on the side stand it would drop round about that area. Not saying it is......but worth a look.
If it is, don't think its a loose hose (the hose will feel loose anyhow but tightening will not cure the problem) as it will be the O ring that joins the "spitter" to the engine......not an easy job to get in to.

Another thought...it's not chain lube ?

  4. I thought it was coolant at first so I put some white paper under the shock (to trace the leak) and sat on the bike to compress the shock slightly, fluid started to drip out the strut seal, it was very obvious once you saw it. I've sent some pictures off to Ducati, the extended warranty should cover this.

  5. Are you sure it's not some kind of 'grim miasma' dripping from your 'illegal' Termis?!

You just can't trust them you know.....

    Sorry mate.... just joking. :)

Is this not under dealer warranty still? Were you not talking about buying it just before Christmas?!
