Afternoon all Just noticed the clutch slave cylinder is leaking on my '03 ST4S. I find the clutch pull absolutely acceptable so am in no hurry to splash out on an Oberon or whatever. Anyone know where to shop for a seal kit? Had a quick look on M&P site and they don't seem to list 'em for the ST. The cylinder looks a bit different from the one on my SS so I'm wondering if they changed the spec? Thanks in advance for the flood of advice!
Got a genuine Brembo kit for my 900as carby on ebay from the ever helpful MotoRapido. Not sure if the design is the same on the ST4 but give Craig a call and he's sure to be able to tell you if it's the same or available. From memory it was less than £25 delivered by the way.
Hi Guys I now have it on pretty good authority that the later (ie on my ST) slaves are different ..... hence the light action. And, of course, Brembo don't make rebuild kits available. Steve is going to turn up a replica piston to take available seals ..... we'll see how that goes. If all else fails Oberon replacement is less than a oner so not too painful. More as it happens ......
That's the chap! We'll have to see what Steve comes up with ...... failing that I 'spose an Oberon is favorite, especially with a lifetime guaruntee.
I've not pulled it off the bike yet as it's still working! Apart from the reservoir emptying the only sign of leak is fluid on the cases below the slave. Where in the assembly is the O ring? My newest parts list features the previous type slave.
Between the slave and the casing, they are all the same O-Ring on all OEM external Slaves, 2 minute job.
Oh right, I can picture that. Only thing is it seems to me that the seal on the piston itself must be leaking to allow fluid to escape as far as the seal of which you speak (sorry about the arcane language!). Please correct me if I'm wrong ..... I'd dearly like the fix to be this simple. And while we're talking could you give me a price for belts .... ST4S, subscriber price please. Thanks mate.
Not had the need to strip one but Google says this: 'The clutch slave piston has a single o-ring. Pull it apart, replace it, put some new brake fluid on the wall and o-ring and push it back together. Re-bleed. Should be good as new. A slave o-ring is probably the first place to check since it's exposed to engine heat and chain grunge.' Belt info here, you need TBST4 - payment to [email protected] via PayPal friends and family. I'll pop a free O-ring in if you want to try one PM or e-mail your address. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/exact-fit-timing-belts-forum-subscriber-discount.38123/
The green or red O ring is to keep crud out, similar job to the bellows on old style slave, the piston seal was replaceable on old style, its about 20mm dia with V lipped outer edge. To replace the piston seal on later ‘star’ slave, the star would have to be removed which would need special tool plus possibly heat and also need re-sealing when screwed back in, providing the piston seal is available.
Well I'm afraid to say I've taken the easy route and fitted an Oberon. Looks nice, the pull IS a little lighter (I think, maybe wishfull thinking), neutral seems easier to find at a standstill (although how this can be if the pull really is lighter I have no idea) and the whole action seems smoother. Result, although at a smidge under a ton I suppose it should be. Thanks for all the input from you lot. Much appreciated.
