"Use the search function". I'm sure it has been covered. This info may have changed.. I'm out the door in a few minutes to purchase, shop has said this might vary. Are 2 piece (with 360 zip) allowed on most track days? Is back protector mandatory? need to allow room for... I want some for the road, but I suspect will do more on track in time. Plan to do 1st track day, and some training. Hire bike. Have spoken to training person so all good on that front. Probably be looking at no limits. Maybe Silverstone, Donny, Rock, Brands, Possible Oulton and Cadwell. At a later date, maybe Spain. My one piece are too small, but I will fit in them again. So not buying another set. And... Has track specific insurance become mandatory for all doing track days? To cover own bike and to cover damage to over parties? Or is there a simple disclaimer/ wavier all sign at the track? participate at own risk etc..
They properly moaned about an old 2 piece I had because the insides of the pockets weren’t leather (they were some special Kevlar instead). Almost didn’t let me on. Check things like that. They argued that not having leather on the inside of the pockets made them only one layer of thin leather in that area and that I was playing with my life (proper drama queen). These were Alpine Star and I did mention the inner thighs on all leather were made of the same stuff as they’d used on the inner pockets. I think the guy was just being a tit. Current 2 piece is better and not been an issue (Dainese)
2 piece must zip 3/4 of the way round. I'd only get a set that go virtually all the way round. Back protectors are not required, but i always wear one. No insurance required - you sign your life (bike) away at "sign on". Bedford may be good for you as nice and flat and pretty close to you. Silverstone (National or International) is a good one to start at and @graeme4130 does some coaching there if you book with Silverstone direct. Brands Indy is to small so your constantly being overtaken or someone is in your way. Rockingham is just a bit shit. Donny is fecking AWESOME but not the easiest 1st track i'd say.
Yeah, your leathers need to zip at least hip to hip for them to be ok if two piece, but a 1 piece will always be a better option. Personally, I'd never ride on the track without a good back protector, but that's just me and they're not mandatory for any trackdays I know of, but you'd unwise not to wear one if you can Who are you looking at for instruction ? Rather than spending a fortune on 1:1 trackday instruction on your first ever day, I'd suggest you head out and ride the first day own your own to get your head around how it all works, and then book a days instruction for the next time you want to head to the track There's loads of good external onene instructors on the market, but I can thoroughly recommend Gary Walton of Not-So-Fast rider coaching. He's a great guy and well worth every penny for a whole day of 1:1 I still do coached days with him, and he's helped my racing on no end, but caters for all levels https://www.notso-fast.com Alternatively, many of the trackday organisers have their own instructors, some of which are free and some you have to pay for, so you could always grab one for a session on your first day just to get the lay of the land. No limits instructors tend to be decent, but they're mainly there just to show you the right line and not much else If you decide to head to Silverstone for one of their own days, give me a shout as I work a few days as a track instructor for them, and can take you around for a session or two and give you some pointers http://www.silverstone.co.uk/track-days/bike-track-days/
Purchase made, lots of cloth (flex) on the trousers (inside leg, rear) I assume that's ok? I think my one piece is similar but is packed in a box somewhere. Spent £750 -ish. Alpinestar. Didn't go with hump or air bag. I ride with rucksack on the road sometimes. I have a back protector, the jacket has (room) and the fixing point for it, so all good. I'm going to do the California Superbike school thing, see what they have to say. Will do the level 1- 4 as and when, to get some technical pointers, things like rider position etc see what else they have to say. I'm not in a rush, baby, short staffed at work, and moving house very soon... followed by more work. I can't commit just yet but have some dates, subject to availability. I'd like to do something this year, and next year much more if I enjoy it. I will be hiring a bike, as my R6 still sits collecting dust and needs going round. I have most the parts now. I only plan to use the R6 until I am comfortable, then want to punt it and use my CBR. I know the circuits reasonable well.
