Looking to reduce the lean angle on the bike when on the side stand. I have seen a few options for bolt-on extra pieces for the side stand. Anyone found anything that looks ok and adds some length? As it is the bike will topple if the camber of the road is too severe and it's a bugger to get up on even the slightest incline. I've seen several bolt on pads which increase the contact patch but I'm looking to add thickness. Anyone found anything that does not look a mess and does the job?
The 1000 fugly early ones had the same issue that were cured by swapping them with a 2005 or later fugly sidestand or, as the previous owner owner did, welded a 3/4 inch blob of metal to the existing one, ground it to look lush then painted it and viola
I was thinking something simpler like this but wondering if anyone knew of a thicker one that looked OK. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Parts-St...288278?hash=item2acf2a6416:g:1UYAAOSwZIddFaq~
curing similar on an ugly, there are many of these available for as little as £5 posted but will still need modding as not thick enough. If you have the time, it wouldn't take much to knock up your own
I liked the look of the SW Motech one, but not sure if it's just a larger foot. Similar look but more expensive option. https://www.sw-motech-shop.co.uk/Extension-for-side-stand-foot-Black-Silver.-Ducati-models.
Stumbled upon this on ebay Not sure if it would be for me, looks a bit Robocop if you know what I mean, but I get the idea.. and its cheap enough to give it a go..? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adjustab...m=183500740096&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
I certainly wouldn't put any aftermarket Chinese stuff on my bike especially something functional or strategic. The Multi is a heavier bike that comes equipped with a steel stand. I wouldn't trust an aluminum iteration even if it fits right. And that a big IF, based on previous "bling gone bad" from years past. Never again for me.
While the Panigale has an aluminum side-stand, the Multistrada weighs 100lbs more and that's not even counting the extra weigh and leverage of panniers / topbox and their content.
That extendable side stand is a frightful looking thing. Imagine that hanging off the side of your bike. Stuff like this is always advertised as "CNC" which inevitably means "ugly"
As far as I'm concerned, form should follow function. It looks chunkily strong to me so I've ordered one. At £11 it's cheap enough to leave in the garage if it doesn't do the job, but I think it will just what a fully loaded Multi needs.
Sorry DarR, I probably got my wires crossed, maybe you were looking at "robocop" version which is an entirely different concept and I couldn't comment on.
Exactly. What Boomer linked in post #7 which started this whole discussion thereafter was not about an extension. It was a about a complete side-stand made entirely of aluminum. I would not have commented about a small bolt-on foot pad.
I put an R&G foot enlarger on and that has quite a fat base to it that raises the bike up a few mm when on sidestand.
Not that I need an extension...a least not on the bike, such a foot base would be useful on dirt roads.
looking over thread again, it's just a mis-communication comedy of errors DarR - Peter didn't say which bit of "Chinese tat" he was talking about, I jumped in to defend my "Chinese tat", and then despite me describing the small, bolt-on foot pad type of "Chinese tat" I had suggested, you for some reason quoted my post instead of Boomers bionic member etc etc - Got there in the end..
Given we both dropped our bikes when we parked up on a mountain road with a lot of camber it would be good to find something. My bike fell over with the footrest extended and on the ground, once it tips too far there is no stopping when you are loaded up with panniers and top box. It was only luck we were able to save Pete's from falling as well And Peter...you love a bit of eBay tat!
