NOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A DUCATI!!! I can not rate this mod enough. If you want to open the lungs of your bike and make it sound like I always thought it should - this is a great mod. 2 hours to do the whole removal and refit - and a big chunky weight saving too.. Sounds fantastic, and from the 35 miles just ridden, it doesnt feel like it needs to be remapped? Speaking to Leo Vince on this they say its 50/50 with whether or not the bike benefits from mapping post mod. Some bikes ECU adjusts to the new flow levels better than others, im hoping im in the 50% not needing any further work!.. So now to ride the beast, she sounds like she is slurping on petrol.... lovely jubbly..
I would be interested in this mod too, but will the engine not run lean ..especially at higher altitude..? Is this a twin spark engine or earlier?
mine is 2014 bike. At the moment it seems to run as it did before - not noticed a change in low down power like some say. Speaking to Ducati about it they advise that the ECU should cater for the increased airflow without much issue, but in some instances they dont and the bike will be lumpy at lower revs. Done 82 miles since exhaust now and it sounds immense. It is loud, but quiet enough at low revvs for cruising through villages, then opens up nicely on the open road.
Most bikes are delivered rich afaik, so never known an issue with modern bikes, especially with modern injector technology, in just changing a pipe. If anything the smell more of fuel than when the cat is fitted But all will benefit from a custom map. But some less than others
funny you say that, as on start up i can smell fuel for a few mins. Bike is running great - i would say its pull is better having now had a few "spirited" rides since system fitted. very very happy
mine used to as well at tickover, more so after cjs mapped it and you could see the af was terrible low down
Dear Mr. @Aide, Mr @bradders is correct in saying all the multistradas can benefit from a remap/ investigation on a dyno.. Even if nothing was changed ( very unlikely) you'd have the knowledge that the air fuel mix is correct, for each cylinder, in each gear. Please don't forget the Mutley has a custom fuel map for each gear and each cylinder. Then a custom spark map for each cylinder and each gear. It is also true that the twin spark is better at coping down low than the 2010 model. Please note that when fitting the factory termis & high flow filter you need to use the USB upmap to remap the ecu. I'm sorry, but Leo Vince is wrong with their advice. Each Mutley engine is different. Can you imagine how you are going to feel stranded high in the mountains with a burnt I out exhaust valve etc.?
If you mean that you can cause damage to the engine don't worry, 4 stroke engine do not depend by fuel lubrication at all. If you where thinking about some backfiring yeah, but it is more frequent in too rich engines.
This is not the issue....too lean means too high combustion temp exactly the same as 2-stroke.... albeit the lubrication comes from elsewhere
