Lets talk 2013 Touring, Pikes Peak and Touring GT screens

  1. So, I picked up my 2013 Touring. Love it! I am still running it in. I have come from sports and naked bikes. After picking up my lower seat at Ducati Aylesbury I thought my screen issues may subside.

After around 3 hours of ridding on some fast A roads and causal ridding. I got home and thought that I had given myself permanent hearing damage. My left ear was ringing for a few days after my ride. In short, I need to find a solution to the 2013 screens.

I was wearing an Arai Chaser, ear plugs and a neck warmer. At all high and low settings my head was being pounded by the turbulence. I move my head to the side of the screen, the clear air was a welcomed relief.

My dilemma is do I try and fix the screen I have, go for a Pikes Peak shortie or a full on Grand Tourismo screen? Sadly I can't try before I buy on the new screens.

I realise this is an ongoing issue but as we have new screens now I thought I would open a new 2013 version of what has been talked about.

  2. If you decide to go for a Pikes Peak, beware, ordered mine on 20th January. Still waiting for it.........:frown:

  3. My bike came with the touring screen as well and I found this worse...

Short Pikes Peak is much better, maybe not for long distance motorway blitzing, but for mixed roads it's a great improvement.

If you are having troubler sourcing and original screen try one of these, I have one and I am very happy with it.

  4. I thought the 2013 bike had rectified the wind issue? Obviously not it would seem!

  5. The 2013 standard screen is better than a 2010 standard screen but not perfect (yet). I ended up with a DP touring screen and Aztec spacers on the 2010 bike which was OK. Now have a GT screen on the new 2013 bike but not had much chance to try it out properly, I think (hope) its better for me than the 2013 standard screen but my feeling is that it needs more angle on it so may try some top spacers soon to see what that does. W.I.P.

  6. I have no issues with the 2013 screen (I'm 6ft tall) and find it much better than the 2010 one. YMMV.

  7. Interesting - I have an Arai RX7 GP and have to say, it is the noisiest helmet I have ever owned - dreadful.

  8. Please don't tell me the screen issue isn't sorted. They've on had 3 chuffing years to sort it. This is dreadful news.

  9. Having never ridden the old one its hard to say if it is me, my helmet or the screen. I am definitely getting my ears battered.

  10. I went for the Puig screen on my 2011, with the screen changing it might take a while for after market ones to come onto the market, some have had good experiences with the Aztec spacers, they may provide a temp solution with std screen, assuming they fit

  11. Yeah, im trying to get hold of these spacers but the spec is only set up for purchase of the 3 spacers for the 2010 + bike. I need 4 spacers for the 2013.

  12. Was not sure it the new screens had changed, i am sure you have seen it, but i think his contact details are on the info pages website, not sure if he is also a member on here aswell.

  13. Thanks I have emailed him to see what his 2013 plans are. There seems to be many different options for the screen. Including the MRA vario touring screen but these are still the previous model.

  14. I have an MRA sports shorty on my 2010 which I settled on after months of messing about with different screens and spacer options.

It's a shame to hear that the new bikes still have this issue (I thought it was sorted), but I suspect that a short screen might be the way to go again?

I'd offer to let someone try my screen on the new bike, but I think the fittings have changed.

Maybe it would be worth trying the new bike without any screen on at all just to see what it's like while you wait on the aftermarket screens to start coming out?

  15. As I'm sure you are aware there are so many variables in these screens. I am not saying the screen has not been improved. I am just saying that with my current set up, I am getting ringing in my ears from ridding my bike, with the screen up and down.

I have the immediate choices of ordering the larger GT screen or the smaller Pikes peak screen. I would have to make 2 purchases as they would not let me try before I buy. The spacers would be the cheaper option but our man who makes the spacers has not made them for the 2013 screen as yet.

  16. They are noisy for a good reason, they are a race helmet with lots of venting. I have one which I use for track days, but on the road I use a Quantum, same shell, not as many vents.

  17. I was refering to post from nsm3! About the arai, not the Multi screen!

  18. Yep, Arai's are famous for being noisy, custom molded earplugs are the way to go, for me anyway!
