Lightweight Wheels On Carby Ss

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by IanB, May 20, 2021.

  1. I'm looking to fit some lightweight wheels on a carby 900ss I've just bought, has anyone done this? I'm guessing a set of Marchesinis from a fuel injected model would be the obvious choice but is there anything else out there I should consider? Thanks

  2. ..obvious choice, but axel diameters are different. (obviously not insurmountable)

  3. I've got a pair of ST2 wheels that I machined and changed the bearings in to fit my Carbie 900.
Although you still need to reduce the width of the speedo drive.

I believe I also still have the sprocket carrier I machined to get some extra width out of the rear wheel assembly.

They are not that much lighter than the stock Carbie ones, but I wouldn't want a huge amount of money for them.
I'll try to have a look in my storage container over the weekend.
I might even find the speedo drive that I skimmed in my lathe to suit.

  6. I've been looking for a pair for a while, and am getting to the point where I'm going to buy a whole rough ST4S or Monster S4 to get them and break the rest of the bike.
The odd ones do come up, but always at silly money.
It's the rears that are the problem to find, the fronts not so much as they were also used on some single sided rear bikes.

    Nasher.

  7. Thanks for all the replies guys, some interesting things to consider there. In terms of budget I don't really know but I would say in the region of £1,000

  8. If you are willing to spent 1000 pound don’t look for the original alu 5 spokes.
Those are most for the look and not the weight sayving.
Look for magnesium marvics or marchesini if you really want to feel the differnce.
I had have both in my SS,the alu 5 spokes and mag marvics.

  9. Seen this thread late, I posted here a while ago about mine, Oz Piegas which required a spindle change on the front, easy to do from the later SS. I looked at loads of options, but went for these. A lot of money but no regrets, instantly noticed difference. Screenshot_20210605-192752_Gallery.jpg

  10. It could be that i will sell my magnesium marchesini’s.
Price would be around 1000€ for them, not less.
And the rear wheel is new, never used.
So you can get a set for that price.

    Henk!!!
