Lightweight wheels

  1. Looking at fitting a pair of lighter wheels to my 900ss, and I believe that later monster wheels fit and are lighter? does anyone know if this is the case? and or any other ducati wheels? would prefer a pair of 5 spoke wheels ala marchesini F2 style

  2. A few years ago I did get a chance to weigh all these wheels to get some sort of comparison (I did need to get out more at the time ). They were all weighed on the same scales, be it only a set of digital bathroom ones but it's a good guide. Another thing I did find out at the same time was the big differences between tyres ! A 170 Pirelli Diablo was 6.3 kilos compared to a 180 Michelin Hi-sport was 5.3 kilos...

    old SS Brembo's......12.30 kilos
    new SS Brembo's......11.95 kilos
    5 spoke Marchesini's......10.90 kilos
    SL marvic (mag/alloy)......10.60 kilos

All these weights are for wheels without tyres, discs and sprockets/carriers but with all bearings, spacers, cush drives and valves.

  3. I have a pair of magnesium Marchesini (and I now know their weight- Thank you Ian) which were fitted to 851/888 and are a direct replacement for Monster and SS of the same era. Owners are getting them checked meticulously for cracks now due to age. Last pair I saw on E-Bay went for around £800.

  4. The marchesini's I have Chris are cast alloy, the mag ones you have will be even lighter ; )
Had my mag Marvics crack tested by Steve at TPCS in Wiltshire, well worth it.
