Undoubtedly this has been asked before, but I thought I'd get a refreshed view from you guys... What's the general opinion on the best and most suitable lithium battery tender for my Speciale? What about specific harnesses that you can wire to a point on the bike to connect the tender? Thoughts and comments much appreciated!
I went with a Noco Genius charger when I switched to a lithium battery on Moto Rapido’s recommendation
+1 for the Noco Genius. I use the supplied battery terminal connector. The DDA connector has to be purchased separately. Andy
Went with the Optimate SAE lead for their LiPo4 charger but unbolted the rear end to route it up under the pillion seat pad/ mono tail hump. Whenever the dealer has to plug in to the diagnostics they will have to unplug the lead from the loom connector under the main seat but as long as they reconnect it aftwerwards, happy days. This method allows quick and easy access without the need to unbolt the seat each time.
I routed mine under the seat and velcro'd it to seat unit. Very neat, accessible and due to black/cf seat unit, unnoticeable.
Yes it is, but since you only ever need access to that DDA socket for connecting to a dealer's diagnostic system, it's fine to leave it attached at any other time. This way I only need to use the ignition key to access the charging end of the lead, under the seat cowl/hump. You will need to lose the pillion strap though as there is not enough room to pass the cable through the tail storage compartment unless you do, which is what is also required if you fit the GPS unit, as the feed wire passed through this same aperture.
Is there enough room to pass the charging lead wire and the GPS feed wire through one hole or did you use alternate sides/holes. Another picture angle showing the wires would be helpful. I know there is a small cutaway in the GPS bracket that allows the wire through the hole in the underseat compartment for the GPS power cable but was not sure if it afforded enough space on the same side/hole to pass the charging lead through.
I used the same "slot" in the bracket. It's tight, but doesn't stress anything. Suggest you play with the length of the charging lead before you tighten up the GPS bracket. It all fits well !
My dealer supplied the bike with lead fitted. I don't recommend this as it fouls the steering. I've ordered the Optimate lead and will do the suggested under-tail routing. This is the unit that came with my V4S. It has no brand. I suppose it will do the job but it seems pretty basic.
I’ve just tried to do this but I can’t see how you created enough movement to thread the wires through, can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Can you tell me how you got enough room to tread the cable through. I can’t see what needs to be loosened to make room? Thankyou
