1200 R Long Distances At Speed - Big Touring Screen?

Discussion in 'Monster' started by dubcat, May 3, 2019.

  1. I’ve just done 2.5 hours on my bike at a fair clip. I find that at 80+ for longer periods of time my head is being pushed back long enough and hard enough that my neck and shoulders start to hurt.

I’m going on a tour and expect to do about 2000 miles in about 5 days of riding. Given the above, is it worth fitting a big screen for the tour? Anyone have any other advice on how to deal with this? Not keen on the big screen to be honest due to cost and style reasons :)

  2. I have a small screen on mine and it certainly helps, it seems to make the bike comfortable at 15mph higher than without the screen. I`ll post a pic later.
The other thing that may be worth considering is a tank bag to lean on.

  3. Puig do a tall screen, find it on eBay, not mega pretty but it’ll save your neck.

Weirdly I found switching to bar end mirrors seemed to help as the buffeting seemed betters, as did a new lid (Arai Chaser X)

  5. Ok thanks. I’m too much of a tart - will stick with the original and do neck exercises :)

  6. Anything over 90 hurts. At first. Then your neck strengthens. Only time on the bike will fix that. Turns out thats quite good fun. Result.
