Looking For 2nd Opinion On This 696

  1. Hey guys, so at home I have 899 Panigale, but also looking to buy this 696. Found a decent price, but the bike has no service history afaik. Also when starting the bike the dealer had to use the choke for about a minute, and even then the bike is idling at below 1k rpm. I guess can be as simple as bad idle adjustment? Bike is at 31k km, the dealer said apparently "low on gas" when I asked whats up with the idle. He also said they will push it through service, because I believe the service light is also on?

Anyway would like to hear your thoughts on this, should I skip or go for it?
Anything else to look out for?

  2. Looks like the bike requires a full Desmo service including shims by a dealer or specialist which will add over a €1000+ to the asking price. Not so cheap. In my world, no service history is a big no no. Andy

  3. I had a 696+ for a while. Lovely little bike but I had a MTS1200S at the same time so it felt under powered. Also the suspension was a little harsh. On saying that, I loved riding it and that bike is the reason I bought a Monster 1200S.
They do need choke to get them started and you need to keep it on until the engine is warmed up a bit so I wouldn’t be concerned about that. I can’t remember the idle speed but if the choke is closed before the engine is warmed up it’ll idle low and possible be lumpy if it idles at all.
With 31k on the clock and no service history I’d be nervous about buying it. You want to do the belts straight away and probably fluids and filters too, just for piece of mind.
