So despite my profile pic being the 848 evo I've been on a Daytona 675r for a year. Today though I put a deposit down on a Red 899. It's done 1000 miles, and has Termi's and seat cowl fitted. I was going to wait until the 'new one' potentially appears but I save a fair bit by getting a used one and this is basically as new! It was registered 30th December 2014 so has tons of manufacturer warranty left. The deposit is down and if all goes to plan I can ride it away tomorrow from the dealer.
Phil, I thought it was your mate who was in the market for a bike ! Don't recognise the showroom but good luck with it and hopefully you get some better weather than the last week to ride it. What did you do with the Daytona ? Andy
It was mate as well, he has put a deal together on the 748r that I asked about. So hopefully he will have it in a few weeks. I have been non stop wanting the 899 for about 2 months and then I just decided that I don't care what the new one is like because I prefer the current shape fairing and can't see that anything like Ohlins etc isn't going to tip the price over the 13k mark. The dealer is P&H so a trek for me! They have 4 though, another with Termi's but 1500 miles, and a 15 plate with standard pipes. I went for the one with 1000 miles on and he has sent me the pics I attached and suggested we just do it all tomorrow if I want as its 2hrs each way and the 899 is serviced and ready to ride.
Sexy time! So what made you come back to the Ducati and the 899 in particular? Do you go on track much out of interest?? I've been very impressed by the Daytona lately particularly on track. Definately not as sexy as the Ducati but about the closest thing I've seen recently and a bit of a bargain for ones a bit older that are near as good as the new bikes.
In short because I missed the 'theatre' of owning a Ducati, and actually I missed the grunt. I thought that I was riding too quick, then I realised I ride the 675r just as quick! Also I think the 899 has several things that will make it easier to live with... I hope.... I did a track day last month, but that's the only one for a few years since I had my 250cc. The 675r is probably the perfect track bike, it's fantastic but on the road the new one is a little too polished. I just think it lacks 'soul'. If I was buying again I would get a pre-2013 'R' model, it's not quite as refined but I think it has more character and as you said they are fairly good value now.
That makes sense. I testrode one before buying the Panigale last year and pretty much came to the same conclusion. It was incredibly easy to ride and I can imagine it being a misile on track. A couple of my mates have them and they were matching me at Cadwell a few weeks back. I could outdrag them with cheat powers on the straights and then they'd catch up again with massive corner speed. I've been very tempted to buy one purely for track and possibly to go racing.
My what now? Who? Don't worry guys I'll be sure to post a bin shot later. This is of course assuming it all goes through okay!
What do you think of my wheelie bin? Turns out the bike had only just been serviced (first service!) and has only done 800 miles! It has the radiator guard, seat cowl, DP grippy pegs (which are a work of art and super grippy) and is even venture shielded!!! I have a feeling it has a comfort seat, it certainly is pretty comfortable but will have to check the part codes.
