V2 Loss Of Power At High Revs

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Fraz, Mar 30, 2021.

  1. This has happened a few times now, seems to be when the bike has properly warmed up. If I open it up, at the high end of the revs it will suddenly cut out very briefly then kick back in again.

It's booked in for it's yearly service in a few weeks so will get them to have a look, just wondered if anyone had any ideas or heard of anything similar 20210329_143842.jpg

  2. What fuel stations & fuel type do you use?

  3. I've not had this issue and it's spent nearly the whole time on track (low miles still though). Has it been sat for ages at all over winter? Do you use premium fuel? And I know this is probably a daft question, but it's not the rev limiter right? :p

If you find anything out after your service I'd be interested to know in case I need to look out for anything on mine.

  4. when you say briefly cut out, do you mean dash off and everything, or just a loss of drive and then back in?

I've had a couple of times where I've gone near the quickshifter and it's cut the engine but so violent its like someone's thrown an anchor out then just kept driving. It's left me with a little nervousness around the accuracy of the quickshifter. I've not ridden the bike much since it's first annual service, the quickshift and blipper seemed better on the way home.

Could it be similar to your experience? you say high revs, I imagine that's where you would be reaching to shift a gear so could be a faulty shift sensor?

It's really funny, when I test rode the bike, I thought it had the best blipper and shifter I'd ever used, without doubt, but my actual bike, it's probably the thing I like least about it... The blipper 'shoves' you, the quickshift sometimes feels totally out of sync with the shift. Hopefully now it's serviced it will be okay.

Sorry if that's not at all like your experience but just wondered?

  5. Maybe a daft question, is this your first twin?

  6. Not on a V2, but on my 1299 last year on track, during what turned out to be my last session of the day, the bike just didn't want to rev past around 10k, grab the next gear and all was fine up to around 10k again. Couple of laps later and the header off the top/rear cylinder cracked which it turned out isn't too uncommon on the 1299. Think I remember seeing a post a while back about cracking exhausts on the v2 so perhaps early signs if it's a similar experience to me

  7. I've recently filled up at both Esso and shell, last time I put in shells premium fuel. It's happened whilst using both types

Nothing happens on the screen, just loss of drive momentarily.

This is my first vtwin came from a Blade before.

It doesn't happen all the time, some times I can gun it and all is well, then it will suddenly catch me out

Could be something to do with the quickshifter

  8. I've got a full Akro system on it, and around 2500 miles

  9. Does the exhaust valve get removed when they change to full system do you know? Either way, I'd probably get it checked out if you are concerned which I know could mean spending some pennies if nothing is found, but like someone said, could be the start of something.

  10. I'm not sure as the bike came with it fitted.

I hope my first Ducati isn't riddled with problems, already have an issue with a rear brake that doesn't work

  11. Is the rear brake just soft or not work at all? Mine is pretty strong for a rear brake.

  12. Akrapovic removes the exhaust valve.

Funnily enough my rear brake also totally stopped working... how odd.

  13. So, my rear brake fluid was very black at it's first service (it had 2 first services), it's recently been replaced, but I'd make sure your brake fluid hasn't gone to crap. I was quite surprised, but it was visibly dark.

  14. Could be the quickshifter tbh. I have experience similar to what you mention on bikes before.

  15. It’s all the heat around that area matey

  16. Quickshifter. I used to have a habit of accidently resting foot on gear lever. This sounds ominously similar.

  17. Can't get away from heat on the bloody thing :joy:. Be useful next week though

  18. Its the Rev Limiter kicking in

  19. For sure, mine failed after a ride through Winchester traffic on a 30degree day when the bike was so hot I thought I was going to pass out!

Seems like your shifter may be the issue, assuming standard rear sets etc, try it again with your foot up on the peg away from the lever and see if you still have the issue.

  20. Thanks for all the replies

The rear break fluid is visibly darker on mine, which I mentioned to the dealer who said they had never heard of it overheating before, even on a race bike.

I tend to ride with my foot up on the peg so very much doubt I'm knocking it.

I went for a quick blast home from work yesterday and didn't do it once, it does seem to only happen when on longer rides
