916 Lost Key

  1. Am I right in thinking there no electronic jiggery-pokery in a 1997 916 sps key? My only key seems to have been mislaid during restoration, is there a way of a locksmith casting key from original locks? Really don't want to be changing tank & ignition barrels (though it ain't me who lost keys for a change!)

  2. Yes, it is just a key. No coding.

  3. i'm just not sure how a locksmith cuts a key from a barrel.

  4. I bought a crash damaged ZXR750 minus key. Took the ignition barrel to a locksmith and had a new key made

  5. Ducati should be able to give you a key code from your frame/engine number. Key can be cut from the code number. You may be asked for registration docs. Failing that a locksmith should be able to make a key.I have blanks foot spare keys from that period. Hope that helps.

  6. I've heard rumours of a way to take mould of tumblers.
Watched old guy in Thailand with dentist style pic 'feel lock' then make key by filing blank on kerb using mole grips to hold it. 30 mins later mate was back on road, with hired cbr400 he'd lost key for. (imagine ragged out lock helped old guy out a bit)

  8. Fantastic, it's not what you know in life but that all important connection.:upyeah:

  9. Locksmith will be able to make a key from a barrel. Avoid calling one out to bike if you can remove the barrel yourself and take that in. Call outs ain’t cheap. Take your blank with you. If you need another blank I’ll send you one..
