Got my 999s back from it's full service and engine mapping and am properly chuffed with the result. Big Chris and Rich did a tremendous job servicing it and sorting various niggles: brake caliper pistons sticking, crank sensor on the way out, added extra earth cable to the starter circuit, as well as fitting the 30mm triple clamps I'd bought ages ago from the US (which turned out to be a bugger to fit of course!). Chris Steedman then worked his magic on it for a day on the dyno and the engine is now so creamy smooth as well as pulling much stronger. See the chart for details: good gains everywhere and about 8bhp at peak. The engine just feels fantastic: better throughout the range, power just rolls on from 3,000 upwards. The engine note is more even, smoother and perhaps quieter if anything, but with that characteristic deep thudding boominess. It's stonkingly good, but also better around town, as it pulls better from lower down and is smoother. Much less of a handful tootling in traffic, which to be honest was a real pain previously. It's still not a commuter bike but it's much more bearable at 25-35 mph. Looking forward to some track-time now... Great job fellas!!
I've no idea whether they are typical of a 999 / Testastretta engine or not. I've certainly not noticed any particular flat-spots, but I'd very rarely be giving it full throttle at 9,000 rpm on the road and even on track I would quite likely have changed up by then. A couple of times I've hit the rev limiter on track - now that does cause a noticeable dip in power delivery...
