Low speed steering pulsing

  1. Picked this up last weekend and loving it, my 1st Ducati and coming from a Gen 1 Tuono.

What I have noticed though is at walking speed (either coasting or under power) I can feel a pulsing on the bars, almost as though there is a deformity/bulge on the front tire. I cant see anything and it disappears completed when the speed is increased. Not applying any brakes , so at a loss at what it could be.
May get the dealer to look at it on the 1st service assuming this is not an Italian quirk ! :)

  2. Do you have the Skyhook?

  3. Try very lightly applying the front brake with one finger and see if you can feel it (daft statement....'see if you can feel')....

......may be a tiny bit of disc runout touching the pads......

.......unless maybe the wheel is slightly bent or out of balance (the latter I would expect to get worse at higher speeds).

I would definitely get the dealer (Ducati one?) to have a look at it, sooner rather than later, though.

  4. Thanks all. Its the Standard ABS model. It does it both on and off the brakes. All it takes is getting up to running speed and it disappears completely. I get no pulsing or abnormal feel at anything other then walking speed or less.
Bizarre ! Generally anything disc or wheel related gets more pronounced with speed.Wonder if it is the tyre.

Its a brand new bike that I picked up from the dealer last Saturday

  5. It's the tyre that's out of true. It may not be seated on the rim correctly. There is a line on the sidewall that should be equidistant, about 2-3mm, from the rim all the way round. A look at that will show you whether the tyre is correctly seated or not.

  6. A mate of mine had similar trouble years ago with a BMW ABS..........surely its not something to do with that?

I think I would get it into the dealers asap........You know what they can be like about warranties.......easy to blame the owner.

  7. Ive emailed the dealer to book it in. So atleast whilst I cant get it to them immediately, they have it on record in case they want to proportion the blame at wear.

  8. It will be the tyre. Get it off the ground and spin it, looking at it from the side.
Probably the front. Agree it could be a seating issue or a faulty tyre. What is the tyre pressure?
Is it on the right way around...recently had a tyre fitted backwards...tyre fitter clearly had a bad day..it got worse as he scratched by rear wheel!!

  9. Thanks. Not had any real time to devote to looking at it yet in any great detail. Will hopefully get time one evening this week ,, work permitting.

  10. Yeah like aircon says, get it lifted of the ground and spin it

Looking for tyre run out, could be a poorly fitted tyre, or even a bent rim! Possible even on a new bike...
