1199 Lower Radiator Removal

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Tim9, Feb 25, 2016.

  1. Has anyone removed the lower radiator on an 1199 and can let me know if its easy or not! I have just got a hole in mine with a stone hitting it and it needs replacing. It surely can't be rocket science?!!

  2. Have you got yourself a workshop manual for it? If not there is a thread on here where a chap will send it you through in PDF. Should explain how to do it in there or at least the parts of the coolant system.

  3. No not got a manual, any idea where it is on here. I can never find anything on this place. Cheers Baz

  4. Search Repair Manual 100mb and then message member Sharky67 for the link, hope this helps.

  5. Thanks Baz I'll give it a go.

  6. I haven't had the actual rad off but I've removed all of that area to fit the first rad protector that I had a while back. R&G then released one that didnt need all those parts removing because it was such a bitch. 't's not utter Jedi stuff but it is a complete ball ache to do the first time as all the parts hang off of each other and they are a bugger to get back together right. Definitely take a good look at the workshop manual to familiarise. Ironically my rad protector ripped off a little while ago, taking the plastic fittings with it :(

  7. Thanks for that RWC, Im thinking after looking at the manual maybe I'll let Ducati do it.

  8. Note,
All links are for reference pics only. ;)

    1) Drain both Rads via the drain bolt / hole on the LH side of the lower rad.
(Quick reply radiator drain plug location - Ducati 899 Panigale Forum

    2) Seperate both LH+RH Lower rad hoses from the Lower rad by undoing both rad hose clamps.

    3) Remove LH+RH Lower rad upper mounts allen head bolts, which also go through / hold the upper mounts of the rad fans plastic housing.
(Ducati Panigale 899 Upper and Lower Radiator Engine Water Cooler with Fan | eBay

    4) Now, lift/pull the lower rad upwards so as to remove the guide alloy hook from its housing that it sits in on the bottom flat part of the plastic V panel / rad holder.

    5) Remove both bolts that hold the Plastic rad holder to the front engine rocker cover so as to give you abit of extra wiggle room when you have to slide the rad up and out.

    6) Slide rad out from the side.

    NOTE,
Be very careful so as not to accidently dis-lodge the fan housings GREY rubber seal, because it is a right TW%T to get it to sit back in place.

  9. Thank for that I'm bloody skint again, How long would you say this took you to do?

    Thanks

    Tim

  10. I replaced upper rad on my last 1199 so know way around them abit now.

I would estimate, once bodywork is off(15-20min to remove and refit ?)

    Dumping coolant(5min??)

Removing and refitting lower rad hoses/clamps(10min ?)

Removing and refitting the Fan housings/Lower rads upper mounting bolts and the front V panel front guide bolts were bolts to the front head rocker cover (10min?)

Lifting rad up and sliding out and fit new rad(10-15min?)

Add say 15min for fist time doing it ???

    So,
Lets say 50min minimum to say 75minutes Maximum is my Guess.

  11. If you don't need to remove any of the supporting plastics then it's not as bad as I made it sound. Should be fine, sorry to be pessimistic, I was still traumatised haha.

  12. Thanks for that, its nice to know how long things take before you give it a go. demo gonna have a go myself then

    Thank

    Tim

  13. Fit a EVO Tech radiator guard, cheap and easy to fit, once you have new rad in place.

  14. Ive got a top and bottom evotech rad cover sat in my garage waiting till I fit the new rad!!

Wish i'd put them on before now!!
