Luggage Solution For A Carby Ss

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by chizel, May 30, 2017.

  1. morning all, looking for luggage for my ss. What have others used/ found best/ cost effective.
    anyone have any for sale?

  2. I guess it depends on how much stuff you need to carry and the pace you expect to travel - I've tried a few tank bags but unless you wanna sit bolt upright they're useless ie you can't get out of the wind and/or give your neck/shoulders a break, soft panniers are kinda OK but obviously mean you have to filter as if you're on a Goldwing, best thing that worked for me was stacking a couple of tail-pack type bags on the rear seat cowl, used this set up to go to from the UK to Italy via Switzerland as it still allowed 'sporty fun' as well as being able to get out my head/shoulders out of the wind on last faster stretches.

  3. On a trip to France, I used some Oxford soft panniers and a tankbag on my SS. My first trip abroad and I took everything including the kitchen sink. The bike still handled ok, filtering can be a problem but not impossible.

I packed a lot lighter for Germany, no tent and half the "vital essentials" I took to France.
I still have the luggage but it`s not really suitable for my 749. if you`re interested in it, send me a pm and I`ll send you some pics.
