Lumpy Multistrada 1000s Ds - Re-map Or Simple Tune?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Black 1000S DS, Jun 28, 2015.

  1. Hello, I'm new. Let's see how long it takes me to ask a stupid question....

Anyway, I recently acquired a 2005 Multistrada 1000S DS - yes, it's a genuine S. It's a project bike, 95% good, 22,000 miles, belts done etc, nice and noisy Termis and a few other bits. It's now down to getting detail sorted.

The main, er, detail is that it runs like a bag of washing, either stalls or wheelies, shakes my eyeballs out from low/lower-mid revs throttle openings, but I can tell there's a good bike waiting to get out.

At some point in its life it's had a Power Commander - though not there now, although I understand that Ducatis and Power Commanders don't really talk to one another.

I've had it on a rolling road, but the guys admitted they didn't really know much about Ducatis. Bit of research led me to believe that an ECU remap was needed. Now, two questions:

    1. I'm in Cheshire; the recommended Ducati ECU re-mappers seem to be in Bristol, Peterborough, Winchester or Scotland. Is there one closer to me?

    2. The guys who do the remapping are clearly very good - lots of testimonials from racers and so on - but is a full re-map what I need? Or is there a more straightforward way of getting it running more sweetly? I'm not fussed about it being fast enough to be a BSB front row qualifier, just a bit smoother so I can see the road ahead in focus when I twist the throttle.

    Thanks.

    Ian
