Lusting After An Sp

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by MrAliT, Oct 3, 2014.

  1. Its bad! I'm thinking of getting rid of my 848 and am seriously interested in a Hyper SP. I find the 848 is simply too focused for 80% of my road riding and I have a dedicated track bike (Triumph Daytona) so I can get a 'sportsbike' fix when I ride that on track.

The Hypermotard seems to be something different.....not sports, not naked and a machine purely built for fun....which is what I tend to be able to get out for these days.

    So questions.

Im not blessed with height (30 inch inside leg) so its going to be tall. How does anyone of similar height cope?

Is it as fun as it looks to ride? I'm going to ride one before I buy but whats it like to live with? Does it ever get too much?

Can you do any distance on it? I did 600 + miles over 2.5 days on the 848 and loved it. No aches or pains and I'd like something that I can get out on for the odd long weekend. Does it destroy your bum cheeks after an hour?

Most answers I'll get by having a test ride, but I'd be interested in your thoughts if youve owned one longer term....at the end of the day a 30 min test ride isnt going to answer all my questions.

  2. Try a ktm 950

  3. you'll be fine just don't expect to be able to plant both feet on the floor

Didn't float my boat but height didn't bother me, snatchy throttle and breaks did

Going for some MR test rides next Saturday pm , join us :)

  4. ps get a scrambler

  5. silicon on the seat works for my... 27" inside leg...
Have a Hyper 11evo (not lowered), not as tall as an sp, as long as you decide which toe you are going to put down then fine, 20k miles on mine all year round, never dropped it as they are so light & well ballanced, or come close (kiss of death...)

  6. Your talking 821 yes?

  7. Alternatively.... Get a full on supermoto... (what I did) my 525 will cost an extra 60quid a year on my policy, 65 to tax.... As mine is going through a complete renovation and upgrade just about all the spares I've been buy are amazingly well priced. Also due to Ruthless Austrian efficiency if it's not in stock at fowlers then it's there in 3 days... Brilliant.

  8. I'm 6'1" so can't comment on your vertical challenge problem but as for everything else.... I've an 1100 evo sp and having owned sports bikes, nakeds, enduros, GS's..... It is without doubt my best fun bike to date. Constant grin on my face even going through town to the local shops. With the extended tank I get 200 plus miles, the Ducati luggage gives options for touring and whilst it's not a motorway machine you can fit a bigger screen if you're happy to trade off buffeting for looking like a nonce. Fueling isn't perfect at low revs but that's easily solved with a remap. Oh and you can get lower seats and drop the ride hide although too much and it'll look like a monster. When you say SP I guess you mean the 821 which I don't know but it has good reports although I bought one of the very last 1100's as I prefer the simplicity, torque, madder behaviour, the looks, .... That's being polite as I don't want to start the old v new debate in your thread. Go try and have some fun.

  9. I noticed when I fitted the ohlins to mine last month, it jacked the rear up a bit, sp stylee....

  10. If you're considering a ktm the one thing I noticed about my mates ktm990 SMT is that it absolutely drinks fuel. And used a fair bit of oil too. It's a 2012 with 4k miles. I've only got a 796 and he really has to work it hard to get away from me and that only really happens after 90 mph.(he's a far better rider than me too)( i think that's probably the weight difference)? We ride together often and whenever he fills up it costs £3-£4 more than mine for same speeds and distance.

  11. Isaac.... Has yours been dyno'd?

  12. No I'm saving for it :-( lot of coin to splash. Really surprises people how well.it.pulls though. I've shortened exhaust and got rid of cat. Fitted O2 eliminators. I was going to ask you about opening air box (you got to smooth edges or something?). What filter is best? Won't be doing it.til dyno/service time

  13. I think once you get it done you'll see you gas mileage go up a fair bit...mine did....I'd hazard about 20%...

  14. That would be good with such a small tank. My mate would be suicidal then!! Everytime we fill up now he's gutted by how little I.have to put compared to his. Got big service next may so it'll be expensive time

  15. And maybe NW200

  16. well...I'd read that once a bike had been dyno'd correctly then usually the economy would go up....and it did....trying to get the cash together to get the rsv4 done...but that really expensive - 2 days on the dyno....

  17. That's the funniest post I've seen for ages!

    You'll be suggesting a Boneville next :D

Might be about next weekend...... Would be really good to catch up. Are you going to try anything specific?

  18. Yep talking 821 version. The SP is taller than standard but I'll have a go and see what it's like. As long as I can shift an arse cheek off ill be fine I'm sure.

  19. Reckon you will be ok when on it, but may be like me getting on a multi you getting on it ;)

  20. Wantz is having similar focusing issues

(Should have gone to specsavers the pair of you )
